Saturday

One of the absolute delights of retirement is going away.  On Friday morning.  While others are at work.  Especially when it is a glorious Autumn day, the drive is mostly across country and Classic FM has some of your all time favourites playing.  What more could a girl ask for, eh?

It's just a quick visit.  In fact, before most of my gentle readers see this today I will be home again.  Home to a tidy and clean house because the cleaners worked their magic yesterday while I was away.  I've been thinking about this - it seems very naughty to have cleaners in when I now have the time to do it perfectly well myself, but it is also very nice.  So, if possible, I will keep them on until after Christmas and then evaluate.  In the meanwhile I will work towards getting some better habits established, some sort of routine going again.

I came over here because I have coats to return, left at their last visit to mine.  As the weather is getting cooler, the coats are becoming more needed again and anyway it was a good excuse to pop over.

Once home, I will have washing and ironing to do and a bedroom to get ready for some dear friends who are coming to stay over Monday night.  It's all go in not-Teacherland!

Today's food:
Breakfast: toast and things
Lunch:  mushroom omelet, yogurt
Dinner:  gammon steak, wedges (home made), fried tomatoes.

  1. And you was worrying if you would be able to fill your days when you retired!

  2. Yeah - sounds daft now, doesn't it? I think I do 'waste' more time now than I did, e.g. sitting and reading or knitting. Maybe waste is the wrong word here but I'm sure you know what I mean! Certainly, being able to go away on a school day is lovely, even if I kept thinking yesterday was Saturday.

  3. I understand that it feels indulgent to sit and knit but actually it is not according to Horizon the other night you are allowing your brain to be creative and free wheel while you are doing a mundane repetitive job. Does that sound like a good excuse?

  4. However you choose to occupy your time, it is yours to decide. If you cannot indulge yourself after years at the grindstone, then something has gone wrong. Relaxation has been missing from your life apart from the compulsory falling asleep after a hard day. Knit, sew, read to your heart's content without any qualms, it's up to you. Jx

  5. I think it takes more than three weeks to change the habits of an adult's lifetime. I have to change a whole mindset. I like that I could call it allowing my brain to be creative! Joan, I still fall asleep, this time without the excuse of a hard day! I call it 'getting old(er)'. :-)
    I'll get there!!

  6. I call it recuperating after many years of toil. We've taken to saying that if need be just have a nap without any worry. When your body tells you to sleep, let it, and feel better after. Jx

  7. I'm trying to sort out my waking time so if I can avoid an afternoon nap, the better. However, sometimes it is overwhelming! :-)
