Good morning, everyone. It was such a cold night round here, the coldest it has been this week, I think. Yesterday, though, was gorgeously sunny for the first half of the day so fingers crossed today is the same although it's predicted to stay really cold all day and it won't really start warming up until the weekend.
(Edit - it's quarter past eight and the thermometer tells me it is minus 8.5. Brrrrrrr)
After the initial changes, Wednesday all went according to plan. Personal training online was good as I have enough bits and pieces to make a programme - a few weights, some resistance bands, a step, a balance plate and a balance ball plus a very basic exercise cycle. Enough to fill an hour, for sure.
Today has started with a mini drama. The heating came on, I know, because the house was warm as were the radiators, but when I went into the kitchen the red light was flashing. I knew what the problem was - when we get very low temperatures, around minus six or seven, the boiler outlet where the condensation drips, can freeze and then the boiler shuts off. It's a safety feature. So it was out with a kettle and a jug and all is now well. I think, given the predicted temperatures today, I will do the kettle thing every hour, just to be safe.
The rest of the day is much nicer. Chris is round for coffee at ten and then Val is coming later for lunch. Come the evening, I'm off to the Infant show, assuming the school's repaired heating stays repaired, of course. Must remember to keep checking the mail.
Also, I'm expecting a delivery. I ordered some beer from the Eyam Brewery to be sent to John as a housewarming/Christmas gift. They muddled the order and sent it to me but I wasn't in and it needed signing for. At first, I didn't KNOW what they were trying to deliver, of course, but rescheduled it for today as it's the first day I'm in all day. Then I pondered and fired off an email to the brewery just to check that my order had been sent to John - and it hadn't, it had been sent to me by mistake.
Fair enough, the response was excellent, they packed up another box and John received it two days ago, but the first box couldn't be re-diverted back to the brewery so Gervaise said to keep it as an apology. So I will have a box of twelve speciality beers and ales to share around. Nice.
Today's Christmas music is another choral standard for Christmas Choirs, The Three Kings by Peter Cornelius, sung by Voces 8.
good that you enjoyed your Wednesday , everything is still frozen here .it looks beautiful and just like a christmas card - I have no idea exactly what the temperature is but is probably similar to that in your area.ReplyDelete
Very lucky that you knew what was causing the central heating failure . Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I was eventually told that the condensation pipe needed to be changed to a 22mm to stop this happening as was only 15 mm ( fingers crossed seems to have worked ) Think its a good idea to keep up the hot water remedy and maybe have a word with your plumber and see if changing the condensation pipe would work in your situation. Different plumbers seem to have different ideas .
Enjoy your chat with Chris and the infant christmas show ( if all is still ok with it)
Hopefully you will have your Christmas parcel surprise as well ( the beer ) which is an added bonus.
I do need to have another word with Matt - we hardly ever get this much cold but that's when one needs the heating. It's fine now, thank goodness, but I will definitely be doing the hot water treatment at intervals through the day - preventative.Delete
You remind me - Matt said it was the condensate pipe. I wonder if some bubble wrap might just do the trick. xx
Have a lovely day and I hope the kettle treatment works. We have had to do the same thing in the past when the weather has been very cold.ReplyDelete
It has done, thanks. All working well now. xxDelete
How lovely of the company to let you keep the extra beers, they will come in handy as a back up alcohol stash for Christmas, you could always try making yourself a shandy ... it's the only way I can drink beer or lager.ReplyDelete
It's freezing here too, but luckily no problems with the heating up to now. The warmest place for me to sit is at my breakfast bar/desk as it's also on top of the kitchen radiator so the lovely hot air warms my legs. I might need to find my bobble hat though!
Wasn't it nice of them. I like the sound of your cosy corner - and bobble hat! :-) xxDelete
Thankyou for replying yesterday.
No I am not on my own....married for 51 years! I don't remember how I came across your blog but started following as I too am a retired teacher. I read it because I love your positive approach to life and how you organise your days. Keep going! Jan
Aw, that's lovely and thank you for following. xxDelete
You have a lovely day planned and I hope you have enjoyed yourself. I bet the Infant's Christmas performance was a delight. xxReplyDelete
It was just fabulous, bless them. xxDelete
What a lovely gesture from the brewery. I bet that's a bit more festive cheer in your neighbourhood this coming week or two.ReplyDelete
Definitely! :-) xxDelete
That's great that you are getting all of your exercise in...I have been skipping my nightly yoga in this cold, and watching too much tv. Ha!ReplyDelete
Lindsey is very flexible about online or face to face, so I'm lucky. xxDelete
