Monday

Good morning, everyone.  The dark mornings seem very chilly now although there's no frost so they can't be that bad.  Maybe I'm just turning soft!

The Aran jacked/cardigan I am knitting is coming along well although my size decision will mean it will be a 'target' garment for now (but not for long, I sincerely hope).  I've decided to adapt the pattern somewhat and add a collar instead of the hoodie.  I think it will be more useful like that; I do already have a few hooded tops and don't really need another one.  Apart from that, given that it is Aran yarn, I will look like the Hunchback of Notre-Dame when wearing a coat.

I will have loads of yarn left over, a disadvantage of not using the set yarn as well as changing the pattern, so I am thinking of making a hat and some mittens (NOT gloves) and maybe even a scarf.  I actually don't have a warm hat so it would be very useful in this cold weather that is supposed to be arriving this winter although I will believe that one when it happens and not before.

Today is a sort of 'free' morning and then I am off to school to help out in Foundation Stage.  Yes, I finally got the times sorted out and am starting again.  I'm looking forward to meeting all the not-so-new-any-more littlies as well as all the lovely adults who help out.  It's been too long.

Then it's tuition again so I have to look over the work although I have plenty already prepared so that won't take too long.

Ooops, I've just checked the clock and it is more than time to have my bath and get dressed so I'd better go and get the day started.  Have a good 'un and stay warm.

  1. Hoods are difficult if you want to wear a coat on top so I think you have made a wise decision.
I remember my days helping out at school - I used to do the Art and Craft and send the kids home with huge cardboard constructions that we had made together - I bet the parents loved me!!

  2. Oh, I remember that from the days when there was always a 'junk' table on the go with no need for learning outcomes, targets, etc. Those were the days!

  3. Makes me smile, Joy, when you say about tutoring and helping out at school - you're supposed to be retired! But that's the difference between a vocation and a job, I guess. Can't say I'd be particularly eager to go back to being a secretary, even though I did enjoy it. I'm not criticising, by the way, I'm firmly of the belief that we should do whatever we enjoy, once we get past 50! (think we've earned it by then, after years of doing what we had to, rather than what we wanted to).

  4. It's a bit ironic in a way but, you know, I always loved the teaching, it was all the other baggage that comes with teaching nowadays that I disliked (and still have huge sympathy for those who feel under such pressure nowadays).
You're right - I am loving what I do. And there's minimal paperwork!

  5. I think a collar rather than a hood a wise choice. I mean, how many times do you see (apart from on young teenage boys) the hood being worn on a hoodie? Certainly not on women of a certain age ha ha!)
It's Tuesday morning and I looked for your post, but none there. This is most unusual, Joy. Hope you are well ... maybe you are just beginning to learn you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn and having a nice little lie in until, say, 6 o'clock! (Only joking!)

  6. I notice there has been no post this morning either (Wednesday) - hope you are OK Joy and mum and dad - there are a few bugs going around at present.

My new version of Firefox won't let me open a comment box in the pop up window now - suspect it is because of the problem. Managed to open it in the 'Open in private browser' from the drop down menu when you right click on Post a Comment for anyone else who is struggling to leave a comment. The new Firefox update has tightened up on blocking unwanted stuff.

  7. It's lovely to see that you'll be back with the Foundation Stage children again as I know from previous posts how much you enjoyed this.
