Wednesday

Good morning, everyone.  It's a bit miserable out there right now.  Rain, rain and more rain and I shall get dressed before dodging the raindrops to the shed for today's frozen supplies!

As planned, yesterday afternoon Beth and I went out to one of our retail parks.  Beth needed stuff for her cats and I wanted her to help me look at sat nav thingies.  After lots of waffle and a helpful talk to a sales assistant, I went for a Garmin one with a fairly big screen and wifi connection.  Beth's back on Friday and she will help me set it up - she already has one so, in this case, is the one eyed king leading the blind - me!

I do have an in-car sat nav but it is very limited and doesn't take postcodes which has been a right pain in its time.  I'm hoping this one will be much more useful.

Apart from that, I cooked (nice soup), knitted, planned, cleared the kitchen and generally pottered around while Beth got on with her sewing and other stuff.  Tuition was great; a nice end to the day.  Sharon worked her usual magic too so now I feel presentable.

Today I have to go back to the precinct to pick something up for Beth that the pet shop didn't have yesterday and I may just possibly have - yes, have - to pop back into Hobbycraft.  I also have to go into PC world for some more printer paper so I will be killing several birds with one stone.  There's also a shop that is several clothes shops in one.  Not that I need anything but it would be nice to see what there is and I am still looking out for that Christmas jumper I have promised myself.

All of that, plus the tuition, should make for a useful day.  It should be fun.  I hope yours is too.

  1. Enjoy your day. You've reminded me I need to be on the lookout for a Christmas jumper myself. X

  3. Sounds like a good day. I hope your search for a Christmas jumper is more successful that mine - I've been looking but haven't seen anything I'd want to wear in public!!

  4. So far I am in exactly the same boat, Eileen. Maybe we're too fussy! ;-)

  5. That is a brave move to pop back to Hobbycraft - I always go in for 1 thing and come out with 4!! We had a visit two weeks ago for some curling ribbon for gift wrapping - if you get the large florists spools they are only £2.50 for yards and yards - so much more economical than those little bits you get in WH Smiths and places with the christmas wrapping paper.
You didn't say what the problem was with blogger about the pop up porn? I don't find it happens with other blogger sites. There is a way round it though for anyone with the same problem if you right click on Post a comment and choose either 'open link in new tab' or 'open link in private window' it does not bring up the attached pop ups for me but in private window I do have to go through the rigmarole of the 'I am not a robot select all the cars / street sign' thing.
Is there anyway to report this to blogger.
Have a lovely day it is raining here and I have a lunch date (new baby permitting - still on standby!).

  6. The Garmin is an excellent satnav-just remember to update it via your computer. We bought one in May for our moho but use it in my wee car when we are going somewhere new. In goes a nearby postcode and destination postcode and that’s it. Advice given by the police was never to use your own post code as the starting point as it’s a gift for potential burglars if the Garmin is stolen. We use the local post office which is on our way to the motorway and coming home into our own town, we know where we are!!

  7. Hi, Viv. I don't exactly know what the problem is, just that it's their end. IO did try to get some help but they didn't appear to be interested. I like your work-around!
The rain has cleared up now and it is lovely and sunny!

Catriona, thanks for the info and that's a great idea about the post code. I know exactly which one I will use too. I'm glad you think it's a good-un!

  9. Hi Joy, I thought I commented this morning, but I guess not! We have a satnav for the car but it's more trouble than it's worth - it tends to fall off the windscreen a lot, and husband is always pressing the wrong thing and making the screen go blank! When we have a need for directions, I use the Google Maps app on my phone - brilliant. Husband always reckons he knows better than the satnav anyway....he has a tendency to ignore it and do his own thing (which doesn't always work out best!!). Grr.

Were you forced to buy anything in Hobbycraft? ;-)

  10. Another busy day, Beth! WE don't have sat nav, we rely on maps still - how quaint is that! But if you are driving on your own with out Navigator (moi!) then I should imagine a sat nav is an asset. Provided it doesn't drive you up the creek (literally, I mean!)

  11. I have a real fear of driving somewhere when I don't know exactly where I'm going. It stops me doing things. Google maps is a great help and I am sure this will be too.

    Sooze, I fear I was. Terrible, isn't it? ;-)
