Monday

. . . and a belated 'good morning' to everyone.  It's a gorgeously sunny morning, not hot at all, just warm, and a bit autumnal although without that 'smoky' aroma you get in autumn.  I suppose it'a a bit soon for that.  On the way home, the changing leaves were very noticeable.  I think it's going to be a very colourful autumn.

It was a pleasant weekend with my parents, given the circumstances and my brother was down from Scotland too.  I've come home with five cobs of corn from Dad's garden which I will enjoy eating or sharing with Beth.

Now I'm home, I've unpacked, watered the plants, harvested some runners, tomatoes and raspberries, popped some washing in, fired off an 'I'm home' email to Dad and I'm now enjoying a coffee before I start sorting out my lunch.

This afternoon, while my ex-colleagues are getting their classrooms ready for tomorrow, I have a tuition session and then a walk to Morrisons after which I can relax and enjoy the evening.  I'll do my ironing while I watch telly.

Tuition starts again for everyone else next week so this week I will do some planning each day so it is all ready.  It'll be nice to see them all again.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the weather (assuming it is good your way)

  1. Who do you do tuition for?My daughter is in school today for a training day.She spent 13 years as a Year 6 teacher and has now gone to Reception.Quite a change but she loves it.A lot less stress than Year 6.What age group did you teach?I taught Key Stage 1.

  2. I’ve very aware that I’m missing the build up to the start of term this year. I have that ‘something is missing’ feeling and it feels strange that I no longer need to plan my lessons or search for suitable resources. I’ll get used to it though and at least I have plenty to occupy me. I’ll have a little taster of school when I start the band presentations next week so that softens the lifestyle change as well.

  3. Beejay, I just do a bit and it is all sorts really but all in primary phase. A couple of 11+ers, a bit of SEN, a bit of catch up and a bit of 'they like learning with you'. I do enjoy the contact!
Reception has its difficulties and there's a dreadful load of paperwork but they say a change is as good as a rest, don't they? I'm sure she will love it.

Eileen, this is the first year (start of my 4th year of retirement) that I feel no little pang of sadness and regret. It's taken that long but today I am totally happy. I don't even want to pop in and say 'hi' just so I can go in! The lack of pressure is strange but so nice and, as you say, there's plenty more you can get on with.

  4. Yes warm and dry here but a strange day indeed as my ex colleagues have also been into school today getting things ready for the new term - I have just retired from teaching Year 1 (previously all sorts of year groups) and as I play the piano, all the infant music! I have spent the day gardening and baking after bumping into an old friend in Morrisons this morning and having a long natter. Enjoy your evening.

  5. I was the music person for a very long time until others came along and I thankfully handed over. With SEN, it was just too much!
    Congratulations on your retirement.

  6. Hope your mum and dad are OK - I am sure they look forward to your visits - I know my mum does. The children will all be back here by the end of the week - school holidays are not like they used to be here on our cul-de-sac when all the children would be playing together in our gardens or on their bikes or queuing for an ice cream at the van - these days we never see a child out playing all holidays it is as quiet as in the term time!
Have a good week. Enjoy that corn.

  7. They are as well as one can hope, thanks, Viv. Dad looks forward to me coming, I know, but Mum doesn't remember. However, she's always very glad to see me, which is nice.
WHat you say is true to here too. In fact it is almost quieter during the holidays as quite a lot of the time the children are off staying with grandparents or at holiday schemes as their parents work.
A shame as I love to hear children having a good time.
