Monday

Good morning, everyone.

First of all, thank you very, very much for the kind comments yesterday.  I haven't replied individually but, believe me, they are like a warm and comforting hug for my heart.

Mum is in hospital and will remain there for a week at least.  We are exploring nursing homes as there's no way Dad will be able to provide the care she is going to need.

I have to go home for a few things this week although tuition is cancelled.  However, my brother is coming down from Scotland on Wednesday so that will help.  One of the things is the last pottery class of the term - I'm looking forward to that.  I'll drive down after the rush hour this evening and come back straight after class tomorrow.

It's a funny old life at times, isn't it?

  1. What a hard decision you all have to make, but it'll no doubt be in the best interests of both your mum and dad. Take care of yourself, Joy, don't burn yourself out. Thinking of you. xx

  2. Joy I wish you courage and fortitude and all the other things you are going to need to get you through this difficult time. Try to remember to take care of yourself if you go down the whole pack of cards goes down. I am thinking of you

  3. I remember this moment well when my MIL was told she was no longer able to go back home and we should find nursing care. We did find a lovely place though with 28 residents and run like a hotel with fresh white linen everyday on the tables and flowers and a menu. They had a beautiful walled garden on the flat to walk around just a nice size for those that were able.
The meals were superb - we ate there too a number of times.
Hope you find a nice one near you and if time allows go and view a few as they all differ tremendously.
Will be thinking of you at such a difficult time. Enjoy the class. xx

  4. Such a painful time but I think you have all been waiting for this to happen for a while.
Ironically you may find that, the decision having been made, you feel relief.
Be kind to yourselves and try to relax knowing that your mum is safe.
You will be able to help your dad through this and have time to listen to his needs, anxieties and sadness about the situation.
Above all take care of yourself as Diana says because you are the lynchpin.

  9. Life is funny. Sometimes it seems just as things seem to be going really well, and we start to really get comfortable, a crisis intrudes. So sorry your mother isn't doing well, Joy. I know you will find her a place that will give her the care she needs. Hope your father will adjust, and hope you take care of yourself, too.
