(The photos, just taken and quite random, are there to break up the text!!)
I fed Squeak as she was looking a bit fragile and realised that there's an awful lot of discard that needed using so yesterday I made a batch of neutral pancakes (not crepes and not sweet or savoury) that are now wrapped, stacked and in the freezer and this morning I have just made a batch of pikelets, basically flat crumpets made like pancakes rather than in the rings that give them the height. They smell great and will sort out some breakfasts or lunches nicely! They're just cooling before I wrap them and freeze them.
That's sorted out the excess discard and when Beth and Alex get their new freezer, I can dump at least half onto them!
Circuits was, as expected, in the garden. It was a bit hot, I have to say, but fun all the same. I got all the planned housework done and dusted which gets me out of doing much today!
I had a go at a 'beginners' yoga video. Beginners my foot!! Well, it might have been but I am obviously pre-beginner - my legs just don't DO that!! So I found a shorter one which was just manageable and will see if I can get better at that before moving on. Do any of you do yoga - the exercise part, not the meditation? How do you find it - does it help?
As usual, it's Groove first thing and I plan to walk there and back; Chris' back is still fragile so she's not going so it won't be as much fun walking, but it is so good for me! 😇 I must dig out my sunhat and get the protection into my bag.
I see I have 'wash windows' down on my list and there's a cupboard in the kitchen that contains things I haven't used for absolutely ages and are just taking up space so that's also on the list.
(still alive!!)
This afternoon, there's a Governors' training session with the other schools in our academy trust. It's in Bocking which is north of Braintree but I'm getting a lift with L. so that's nice. There's another, different training session tomorrow but that's just down the road so no problems.
Two things to put down on my training record which gets me off the hook until next term.
So a nice, busy day ahead. Bring it on! :-) Have a lovely day, everyone, and remember the sun cream and the water. xx
I enjoy yoga and have been doing it for decades. You need to find the type that’s right for you, there are different ones. My favourite is Iyengar, which is very much about exercise. But it’s also about adapting to your body and is often used by people with physical problems. You can use straps, bricks, or cushions to support the bits that don’t stretch far enough :) Sadly, it’s difficult to find Iyengar teachers, at least in France. And you need a good one, who will ask questions about your health and keep an eye on you in order to make appropriate adjustments. My current class isn’t at all like that, but it is still brilliant for maintaining flexibility and balance. Never mind touching my toes, I can wrap my hands under my toes with straight legs, not bad for a 70 year old!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Veronica. I totally agree, that is brilliant for a 70 year old. I can touch the floor with fingers and thumbs but not palms.
DeleteI think I'm not too inflexible but it could possibly improve a bit.
xx
Oops, forgot to say, if you’re a beginner it’s much better to go to a class, as it is possible to injure yourself doing inappropriate yoga poses!
ReplyDeleteYes - but see tomorrow's post . . . xx
DeleteAbsolutely agree. Go to a class to understand what you are meant to do rather than look at a screen. There will be plenty of classes out there. Yoga and pilates are superb for core strength and stretching your body. I do a mix of HIT, pilates, circuits and walking. It's beneficial to do a variety of exercises. And of course yoga and pilates are portable and you can do them wherever you are!
ReplyDeleteThat's fab - it sounds like a good mixture to me. :-) xx
DeletePS I forgot to say that I'm in my 70's!
ReplyDeleteMe too - I'm 73. It's so good to keep the flexibility for as long as possible, isn't it?
Deletexx
Even though you don't want another class I would encourage you to go to yoga class to learn what you should be doing before embarking on the YouTube classes - although many of them are excellent and ideal for those who actually know what they're meant to be doing. You've most probably gleaned this already from all the comments from the experienced yoga followers!
DeleteYes, I have. I've mentioned this in the next post. I totally get the benefits of a class but . . .
DeleteAnd thank you. xx
Lovely photos and enjoy your training both physical and brain. I do Pilates as I just can’t get on with yoga. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI did, thanks, they were both really good. xx
DeleteI do yoga from YouTube. My favourites are Adriene (Yoga with Adriene) and Charlie (Charlie Follows Yoga). Both do a brilliant selection of classes aimed at all different levels, including some good beginner ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Suzie, I have made a note of Adriene. Charlie is the one I couldn't manage although I was impressed with her delivery and careful explanations. Maybe, once this really simple one gets easier, I can move on to one or other of them. xx
DeleteI used to do Iyengar Yoga and loved it, was much fitter and more flexible when I did.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about starting again, maybe using videos but it's a bit of a tomorrow, tomorrow thing!
By the way Joy I finally got to do that thing which I mentioned to you some time ago, during a New Year I think....... moved to Devon to be nearer my son......😍
Alison in Devon ( was Wales )
Oh, congratulations. A move like that is a biggie but I'm sure it will be well worth it. Are you getting things straight quickly? xx
DeleteIt's starting to feel like home, but we have a lot less storage here so still a load of sorting and charity donations or binning to be done!
DeleteThanks for asking x
Alison x
It takes a while, doesn't it? A shame about the storage but It must help with what you declutter - the decisions you have to make, I mean. I'm glad it is starting to feel home-like. xx

DeleteYoga-- I am 83 yrs. and follow chair yoga for seniors, the group I do it with choose a YouTube video which lasts 30 minutes. Feel fitter for doing so. Also, do a 3 km walk most days, weather permitting. Changing the time I do that to evening as it is getting hot and humid these days.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful - I hope I'm active like that in ten years' time. Hot and humid isn't great for exercise, I agree. xx
DeleteYour tomatoes are coming on a real treat with lots of lovely fruit to enjoy in a little while. Keeping my fingers crossed for the cucumber as well.
ReplyDeleteMe too - I was so disappointed with the others. I think the tomatoes will be good - I just love tomatoes. xx
DeleteI keep meaning to start yoga again. It has so many benefits. Xx
ReplyDeleteI can see that it would. It focuses on the part of physical activity that other kinds miss out . It's so good to be flexible. xx
DeleteI did yoga many years ago, but now the body just does not bend the way it used to and I am slightly afraid of breaking something if I try some of the old positions. I have something called chair yoga that I think I might give a try.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Good idea. I found clips for chair based yoga but that wasn't what I was looking for really. Good luck with it. xx
