Friday

Good morning, everyone.  What a lovely, sunny day it was yesterday.  Everything is starting to look so very green too which shows that spring really has sprung.  It's supposed to get colder again for a while but it doesn't sound as if it will be too extreme for the time of the year, thank goodness.

What with one thing and another, I have paid no visits to the allotment at all and it will be looking like a disaster area.  I hope to be home next week and am determined to spend some time each day doing exactly what I did last year - digging and weeding!

The healthy eating has disappeared over the horizon over this last week so that's another thing I need to get under control.  While I really enjoyed the Chinese take-away we had last night, the first for me since before the gallbladder crash, I HAVE to get back on plan so fingers crossed (and mouth shut!).

Thank you again for all your messages of good will and hopes for better things - it shows the good side of the Internet when people are so very kind.  It makes a difference and you are all lovely!
xx

  1. Don't worry too much about eating healthily at the moment. As long as you are eating and keeping your strength up, that is the most important thing. You'll soon get back on track when you feel ready. X

    1. I've slumped this last week and, to be honest, it has done me no good at all. Een the 'comfort' is very short lived and unsatisfying. Time to wake up and stop damaging myself! It's as much a mental thing as a physical thing.

  2. The one saving grace about gardening is you always get another chance and the same applies to healthy eating your body will always give you a second chance so nothing is ever really lost. Some times these things have to be put on hold while you deal with more important things so don't beat yourself up just yet. Everything will soon be back on track this is just a hiccup not a disaster besides stress burns calories!!!!

    1. Good point about the allotment, Diane, thank you. You're absolutely right.
I think some hard physical effort in the fresh air will clear my brain and be very good for me though. As the poem goes:
The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
      Than anywhere else on earth.
Whether or not you have a religious faith, the meaning behind those words has some validity - it's a back to basics thing, isn't it?

As I said above to Jules, I think I need to regain control for my own well being. I'm not talking about going nuts, I'm just meaning that I need to fuel myself properly again. I can feel the difference both mentally and emotionally as well as physically this week and it's not helping, not at all. I'm stronger when I eat properly, I know that and it's time to do so again.
I know the stress is great but I don't think the extra calories burnt will compensate < grin >! I'll know the worst when I get on my scales on Monday!

I've been talking to myself in this reply! :-) I hope it makes sense.

  3. Comfort eating only really helps in the short term - well, it does for me. A few moments of gratification, then an hour or two later the stomach ache sets in, and the next morning my joints are aching like mad, and then I wish I hadn't done it. I end up wondering whether a few minutes' pleasure is really worth hours of suffering - no it usually isn't. I hope you can manage to get home and lose yourself in a few hours at the allotment - don't overdo it though! xx

    1. That's the same for me and really it is just not worth it. It's been bad this week but, fingers crossed, looking up as far as food goes anyway.

  4. I'm a comfort eater too so I know how easy it is to fall back into bad habits - and how deceptive the 'comfort' part is. I think you're right to get back into healthier ways, as it will help you cope, but with a dose of tolerance if it doesn't always go quite right. Hugs to you all

  5. I hope the allotment and the scales aren't as bad as you fear when you get to have a look.
    Take care

    1. Well, whatever it is, that's the starting point and won't stay like that for very long. :-)

  6. I tend to lose my appetite completely when I'm upset, but I sure do make up for it afterwards. Food is such an emotional issue! I'm thinking you'll feel better when you feel like you're more in control, both with what you're eating and the allotment. Take good care, Joy.

    1. I'm sure I will, Sue, feeling in control (whether we are or not) is so necessary to well being, isn't it? You take care too, thank you.
