Sunday

Good morning.  I haven't even looked out yet but it doesn't feel in the least bit cold.  Yesterday turned out quite pleasant after some early rain, so that was nice.

Beth and Alex stayed around until about midday and then set off home, loaded up with all the left over naughty things from Christmas.  The only thing left now, apart from a few bottles of wine, is about half of the Christmas cake, some stollen and some tea loaf.  The last two are safely tucked away in the freezer and the cake will be cut into thirds, one for me, one for Dave and Anna and one for John.

I was quite pleased with how much washing/drying/ironing I managed to get done yesterday.  Some was bedding (Beth and Alex's) and there will be more bedding (mine) today plus a few other bits and bobs but nothing too difficult.

I set to early to deal with The Turkey.  I stripped off all the meat and then pressure cooked the carcass in the instant pot which is really useful for things like this and saves a lot of time and effort.
Beth and Alex took home some of the cooked meat and I am dealing with the rest.

Yesterday's Twelve Days gift was this.

Apologies for the bad photo.  It' one of those metal house boxes with a battery tea light instead.  I saw some with biscuits inside but the one I got had tea bags - much better for me!
The tea bags are now in the tea caddy and I will test taste them later on today.
And in the dark.  It's rather pretty and I will be very happy to tuck it away for next year's decorations..

I'm getting most confused about what day it is at the moment and, judging by the comments I have read in other blogs, I'm not the only one.  Yesterday felt like Sunday all day and today feels as if it ought to be Monday.  It's a weird feeling.  Do you do that sometimes - confuse your days?

Today is really all about clearing up and sorting out.
My bedroom is a bit of a mess but half an hour will deal with that.
There's the aforementioned washing/drying/ironing to do - I like an empty ironing basket!
I also need to deal with what's left of the turkey.  I've made four portions of curry which are now in the freezer, I intend freezing some of the good slices with the leftover gravy for Sunday 'roasts' just for me and some just as slices, wrapped in single portions.  I must ponder what to do with the chunks but, for now, I think they will just be packed in single portions and frozen too - by the time I take out what I need for today and tomorrow, there won't be all that much left anyway.
Finally, I have some lovely turkey stock which is useful for all sorts of things.  At the moment, it is in the fridge chilling so that the layer of fat is as solid as turkey dripping ever is.  I'll take that off and freeze the liquid.

I remember Christmasses at Kettering with my dad's parents, Nanna and Grampy.  There was always a lovely bowel of dripping on Boxing Day and it was a real treat to have it on hot toast with a good sprinkle of salt, sitting in front of an open fire.  I can taste it now!
I could do that on Slimming World, if I measure carefully, and maybe I will.  It's not everyone's thing, dripping, but I loved it as a child.

Looking at the above, I think I need a List.  I'd better stop and get that written then!
Have a lovely Sunday, everyone.  Do you have anything special planned or are you simply chilling and having a gentle day?
xx

I'm almost at that stage of wanting to be back into a routine now...almost :)

  2. Mornin' Joy. I love that pretty little house and would probably leave it out all year. I too thought yesterday was Sunday and was quite surprised and pleased to discover that it wasn't. Today all the decs come down and will be tidied away. I can't wait to get the house back to normal and give everything a good clean.

    1. I did wonder about that, Cherie. I might leave it out and see if it looks too 'Christmassy' over the next few weeks.
I'm eyeing up sundry corners and I reckon some Christmas stuff will be all packed away before too long. Officially, I have until Thursday.

    1. Happy Sunday, Val. It doesn't help that all the normal things haven't happened for a week or so, does it?
It feels colder here now than it did first thing and I've turned up the heating.
Have a happy day too. xx

  4. Same here with the 'which day are we on now' syndrome. I find it is the same every year.
Very pretty little metal house Joy.
    Have a good day x

    1. She really has travelled, hasn't she. Good luck to her and also to all the others too.

The Twelve Days thing isn't generally done here either, it's just a little spoil myself thing that I think is rather nice.

  6. The tealight house is lovely - I'm with Cherie, I'd have it out all year round. Yesterday I was convinced it was Sunday. And today doesn't feel like a Sunday either. Don't really know what day it feels like! xx

  7. What a lovely house. It is so pretty when lighted up. That will lift your spirits.

I would lose track of cays as well if it wasn't for the date on the computer, and the calendar directly on the wall above me. Days are blending together.

    God bless.

    1. I think it will be easier once the regular things start up again. With circuits, personal training and SW punctuating my week, it is so much easier!
But yes, this last week the days really have merged.

  8. I never seem to know what day it is and I rely heavily on my diary and the day/date on my phone to keep me organised. Those days where it just feels like it's a different day of the week just add to the general confusion!

I do like your tealight house. Would you have room to keep it out all year? xx

    1. Yes, I would, Eileen, and all the lovely comments have convinced me that I should. Thanks.

I'm OK normally because of the set things I do but this last week has been a right muddle (in the best possible way, of course).

  9. You are not alone. The day of the week confusion reminds me of the title of an old movie, "If this is Tuesday, it must be Belgium." Essentially trying to figure out what day it is and where one is supposed to be (or to be doing). Will be sorted out in a week or so. :)

    1. Oh, yes, I'd forgotten that one. You can see what it means, can't you!
I have started my new diary - that'll keep me on the straight and narrow, I am sure. Most of the time, anyway!

  10. Your comment about your grandparents reminded me that up until I was about 10 we always went to my GP's for Christmas. My GF would kill one of his chickens and that would be the first course chicken soup (they were too old and tough to be roasters so had to be boiled) and also the main part of the meal. Talk about economy!

  11. The little tealight house is lovely all illuminated. My Mum got the same gift off my son, but as she doesn't drink tea it meant my brother got the gift of the teabags.

As to what day it is, that is an ongoing sense of confusion for me, it doesn't help that Alan is getting business calls every day. I think all his work colleagues are bloody workaholics!!
