Monday and photo overload warning.

Good morning, everyone.  It's dull and there's drizzle in the air but I really don't care at all.  It's peaceful, warm (inside), I have a very comfy bed and life is great!

We were very lucky with the weather.  Apart from a cloudy spell sort of mid morning-ish, it was a bright, sunny day with a breeze that stopped it from feeling warm by the coast.  I didn't have anything planned so I did my bit of shopping early and then set out for a longer walk - or perhaps stroll is the more accurate term.  I wend down to the sea front, turned left, sauntered along the pier and back, then went a bit further along (you can't go that far), turned back and walked on the beach at the water's edge the other way until I felt hungry, stopped and had my picnic, then walked further before turning back and going home.

I took photos, of course . . .

I love how you're just walking along and, suddenly, there's the lighthouse.
Several of the post boxes have crocheted 'hats' on them.  They are so cute and very cleverly made.
I want a beach hut!!!  When I win the lottery . . .
Couldn't you just watch the waves for hours.  I know I could, they are fascinating and hypnotic.
A beautiful, blue sky.
Under the pier,
Oh, those beach huts . . . <envy>
Some looked a bit neglected but most were in tip top condition, like this one.
I bet they do!  I gather they can sell for as much as £150,00 to £170,00
Fastened onto the other side of the fence front right was a sign that said 'no fishing on the rocks' (or it might have been 'no climbing').  Perhaps he had permission . . .
You can get some lovely, splashy waves at high tide, to the left of the pier.
(I need to straighten this one - just look at that horizon!)

Oh, it was a lovely, gentle day.

Today, I started off with another walk down to the sea and along the water's edge.  There weren't many people about and those who were smiled and were very friendly.  I stopped off at the butchers on the way back and now have my breakfast bacon and chicken for dinner.

In a couple of hours, I will set off for Orford Castle and a guided tour, followed (weather permitting) by a saunter around the grounds.  Then it will be home for a cuppa and then another walk - I'd love to live near the coast, I really would.  If you do, how lucky you are!

I took some wave photos this morning but haven't uploaded them yet.  It's so hard to catch the essence of waves, they are very elusive.

Have a super day, whatever you have planned.  Stay safe and be happy!  xx

  1. Good morning, Joy, and I'm enjoying your holiday right along with you! By and large, it seems people who own beach huts really do look after them - but then, with them costing that much, why wouldn't they?! Although it does always seem an obscenely large amount of money to spend on a structure you can't actually live in...But each to their own! And you have a super day too, Joy. xx

    1. I once watched a 'My Flat Pack Home' where the flat pack in question was a beach hut. It was absolutely beautiful when all finished.

  3. Even the beach huts in Felixstowe are more expensive since Covid but those at Southwold have always been out of most peoples price range.
I wonder if the second hand book shed in a back garden in Orford is still open - many years since I went there.

    1. I didn't see any sign of it as I strolled around but, to be fair, I wasn't ;looking all that closely and I didn't stroll too far.

  5. I love your new header! When we lived in Torquay as kids we had access to a beach hut belonging to one of big hotels (a relative worked there) and we spent every afternoon after school in the beach hut dividing our time between swimming in the sea and playing houses in the hut. Happy times!

Your photos are delightful and it looks like I will need to visit there one day to add to my collection of lighthouse photos. There's nothing more calming than watching the waves - love it!

  6. Sounds delightful. Enjoy your holiday. Oozing envy here. haven't seen the sea in 6 years. Takes 4 days to drive to the ocean here lol. Even the great lakes would take nearly as long to get to. Loving the photos.

  8. Those are beautiful beach houses. I love listening to the ocean and watching the waves. The whole experience is so hypnotic. I live thirty miles from the ocean...about a thirty or forty minute drive. It's so worth it!

  11. The price of those beach huts is amazing, they should definintely be looked after when you've spent that much on them and kept in the family for future generations. Our new home wasn't that much more than them!!

    1. One would certainly think so.
I looked in a couple of estate agents' windows and the cost of properties around here is eye wateringly high. If I could afford it, I probably would as it's so lovely in Suffolk and it would be an investment, but I can't and that is that! :-)
