Friday, 24-02-23

Morning.  Happy Friday to us all.  I thought it was turning colder yesterday and, sure enough, we have ourselves a frost this morning.  It's quite cold but on the plus side, the skies are clear and the sun is starting to shine, making everything look beautiful.

Yesterday, SET was good and the chat with Chris was most enjoyable although something quite unpleasant happened over Wednesday night/Thursday morning.  Three of the garages that are actually in the cul-de-sac were broken into - I say 'broken in' but, in fact, 'they' managed to unlock the doors without causing any damage and you'd only know they had been opened because they were left open until morning. Chris and their next door neighbour and the next neighbour to him all had their garages opened.  Chris and Steve didn't lose anything as they keep their car in and there's very little room for manoeuvre or anything else but the other two lost stuff.  My neighbours, Tracy and Terry, park their car in front of the door so it can't open and none of the garages at the back (where mine is) were touched.  They all have garage defenders on them now which does make it much harder to break in.
What came as a bit of a shock was how easy it seemed to unlock those doors and the cheek of doing it in a well lit and built up, overlooked area.

After our chat, I came home and got on with stuff including washing, etc.

Later on, Chris turned up with a little treat.

While they were away last week, I kept an eye on things and moved their post from the doormat each day and she bought these as a thank you.  Wasn't that lovely of her?

As soon as it warms up a bit, I know where I will plant them.  For now, they are brightening up my kitchen window.

Today it's Slimming World first with weigh in and taster.  Then I will come home for a quick tidy up (for the cleaners - it won't take all that long) before setting out to take the bus into town, partly just for a little nosey round and partly just to suss out the new route, etc.  I'll take a mask so, if the bus is busy, I can wear it.
However, if the weather turns, I will stay in and chill.
Have a really good Friday, everyone.  I know some of you are experiencing extreme cold at the moment - stay warm and safe as much as ever you can.  xx

  1. Sorry to hear about the break-ins, Joy, leaves an unpleasant and unnerving feeling doesn't it? The unfortunate reality is that experienced thieves will always come equipped to deal with locks etc, and I don't know how we could get round that. Years ago we had our brand new (we'd only had it 8 weeks) touring caravan stolen, it had both heavy duty hitch lock and wheel locks on it, but the thieves cut them off with whatever tool they'd brought, with seemingly no bother at all. I guess it would take a 'professional' thief to let us know what to use/not use for security. xx

    1. It has left us feeling a bit vulnerable, yes. I'm so sorry to read about your caravan - that's in a different league entirely and I hope you got a good insurance amount in compensation.
You're right - they always seem to be one step ahead, don't they? There's some nasty people around, that is for sure. xx

  2. Sorry to hear about the garage doors, not nice and leaves everybody uneasy and worried.
Lovely primulas, I always associated them with Spring flowering but the lot I planted a few years ago keep flowering repeatedly throughout the Summer too. Hopefully, yours will be the same kind, they are real spirit lifters.

    1. Primulas are lovely, aren't they. So many different colours and so cheerful and bright. I hope they continue flowering for a long time - must remember to dead head them. xx

  3. Sorry to hear about the garages being broken into, and wow one actually had a car in it, I bet that gave the thieves a surprise! The primulas are lovely and cheery aren't they, they will look great once you find them a suitable place. I actually got a line of washing completely dry yesterday in the sunshine ... first time this year.

  5. The business with the garage break ins is unsettling isn't it. I'm glad yours wasn't touched but it's still a worry.

I hope your weigh in went well and that you have had a good day xx

    1. It is but maybe having the extra security in the form of a defender at the bottom has helped. The whole row of garages has them now. xx

  6. What a shame about the break-ins. I would be worried that they will come back. I hope people put up cameras and that the criminals are caught. There has been a lot of property crime in California, too. My locksmith said that they see the same thing being done by people in the business. They ask a lot of questions and require i.d. for that reason.

    1. The original garage doors do seem to be vulnerable. Many people have replaced them over the years (including me). xx

  7. We have had a rash of car thefts here, mostly high-end vehicles, so mine is safe! However, it means our insurance costs are going to rise as we seem to be in a vulnerable area. so we all will suffer.

    1. I fear so - that's something we don't always consider - that we all end up paying. xx

  8. So sorry about all the break ins. We seem to go through a series of that type of criminal activity here as well.

    God bless.

    1. Fortunately, is is pretty rare around here although some parts of the city have higher rates. It's sad that people can be so dishonest. xx

  9. What a lovely treat those plants were! It's nice to know your keeping an eye on things was appreciated.

Sorry about the break-ins. We're lucky around here - touch wood - so far at least! I know that some people a few streets over have had trouble. I don't suppose people want to walk up the big hill to get to us lol

The flowers are pretty, aren't they - and will last and last too, unlike cut flowers. xx
