Sunday, 10-09-23

Good morning, everyone.  So here we are, a third of the way through September already.  Oh, my goodness!!
I'm up very early as I went to bed pretty early too.  Yesterday was a very draining day, I thought.  BBC weather thinks that today will be equally hot (the filled water bottles are in the fridge already) but tomorrow will be more moderate and Tuesday might see rain round here.  We will see.

I got the remaining ironing done early which I was pleased about.  Apart from that and some cooking, etc, I spent the rest of the day with blinds closed, as still as possible in front of a fan.  It helped a lot, as did opening the door to the attic to give the heat somewhere higher to move to - I think it helps anyway!

Well, I have finished the lap blanket and I'm really very pleased.  It's ended up bigger than I intended but that's no problem, and it won't stay on my bed, it will come downstairs to go with the shawl for use on those colder evenings - I know that seems impossibly right now but, believe me, in a month or so . . .
I decided on a scallop edging - it's easy to do and looks fine.

You can see one of the half hexagons and also the quarter hexagon in the second photo.
I'm definitely making more, maybe some cot sized ones, for the Salvation Army to use - they have a drop off point in Morrisons' car park.

A friend posted a photo of some little crocheted pumpkins which are so cute so guess what . . .  :-)

Today will be much the same, I expect.  I might sit out this morning while it's still fresh and enjoy the sunshine but that won't last long, I think, and then it will be blinds shut and fans on.
What's it like your way?

  1. Wow, your lap blanket really is stunning especially seeing it opened out in full. The scalloped edge really does it justice. Well done.

It's quite cool at the moment with the patio doors open so I am making the most of drinking my morning cup of tea outside!

  2. The blanket is just beautiful, Joy, you must have such a sense of accomplishment and pride in your work. It felt quite refreshing when I got up, having had some rain a bit earlier, but is already now feeling muggy again - hopefully the last day of mugginess. xx

    1. Thanks, Sooze, I was pleased - still am! It's not too bad here right now although there's a fair bit of warmth in the sun. Nice in the shade though.
I think we are predicted today and tomorrow the same and rain, possibly storms, on Tuesday - but time will tell on that! :-)

  3. Your blanket is so pretty.
I shall be glad when this heat abates. It's quite muggy here and feels as though a storm is brewing.

    1. It does here and I gather there have been some very impressive storms in places. Nothing round here though. xx

I'm off to Liverpool tomorrow for a few days and really looking forward to a drop in temperature! Last night was very uncomfortable indeed. xx

I tried to comment on your blog but couldn't. It seems to have forgotten who I am! Sorry,

    2. It seems difficult to comment on anyone's blog these days. I have signed in to Blogger - if you have time can you see if that now makes a difference if not I will go through all my settings again as you are not the only one having difficulty - but thanks for letting me know. This thing going on between Blogger and Wordpress is frustrating it used to be much easier to comment on either. Because I am Wordpress I comment on Blogger through Google but often I have to exit a blog and then go back in again for the comment form to work!!

    3. I'll go in again today and see if I need to start again - re-join, so to speak. I think that, as they seem to be more aware of spam and try to deal with it, genuine commenters are also being stopped - but that could be quite wrong. It is a nuisance, anyway. xx

    1. Hi, Shannon, thanks very much. I prefer using smaller bits and joining - it doesn't seem so daunting that way and most of the blankets I've made are smaller shapes joined. It doesn't always work but this time it did. :-)

  10. Hello Joy. It feels good to finally be back blogging again, although it may take a while to remake all those connections I had before my blog break. You seem to have had lots of good things going on, as well as that horrid back trouble. Hope that is easing up now. I know how nasty that can be.
Your tomatoes and courgettes did well. My courgettes, runner beans and peas did ok but my tomatoes have failed dismally. I enjoyed seeing your crochet projects. The blanket is so pretty in white and pastels and the top was lovely too. It reminds me I need to get my crochet hook out again!
Finally, congrats on your SW Woman of the Year award :-)
    Have a lovely day.

  11. Your blanket looks lovely. So bright and cheerful. The weather in Suffolk was quite hot at the end. I didn't like it! Too much like Michigan though the nights were cooler. The weather when I was there wasn't bad at all. It was nice enough to get out and visit all the places we wanted to.

Can't wait to see the pumpkins!

    1. It's not usual, this much heat and maybe it's been a bit too hot over the past few days, but the tomatoes have loved it. :-) Once the sun sets, it does cool down quite nicely.
I'm glad you were able to go out and about and visit places. Suffolk is a lovely county (and not too far from where I am in Mid-Essex)

  13. The lap blanket turned out beautifully, I love the delicacy that it being predominately white gives it and adding that scalloped edge just completes this effect perfectly. I have to say though ... it is the biggest 'lap blanket' that i have ever seen. ;-)

    1. < grin > yup - it just sort of growed and growed! I like the white effect too although I did have to buy several balls of it so not 100% a stash project. Not to worry, it is a very useful item.

    1. It does look nice on the bed in a predominantly white room and I suppose it might end up there on those very cold nights, but I do already have one for my bed.
I have too many really! :-)
