Friday

Morning, everyone.  Friday again.  It does seem to roll round so quickly.

I'm feeling rather chuffed with myself.  Remember I mentioned about keeping my personal accounts more strictly again the other day (Wednesday, I think) and how numbers bothered my head (mild dyscalculia)?
Suzie suggested a simple excel spread sheet and my brain panicked before telling me not to be so daft!
I found a really good, clear (even to me), simple YouTube video and watched it through a couple of times, sat down at the PC and, lo and behold, I have a really simple but (as far as I can tell right now) accurate spreadsheet for a month.  I even entered amounts for this month, just to check, and it figures.  It gives me totals for general, subscriptions, food/other, my total spend, totals for income from the month because I work a month in arrears for income and (although I had to look up how to subtract - use the sign, silly), what I will have left.
Blimey - I never thought I could do that.  It's clunky, amateur and very, very simple but it seems to be all I need and I am so proud of myself.

This is the video, if you're interested.  I'll be watching it again as I couldn't take it all in at once.

Thanks very much, Suzie, Jackie and Eileen for the push.

First thing, I had a lovely chat with Chris - the time goes so quickly and we were still chatting madly as she left.

Another thing I did was go into Amazon and order sundry requested Christmas pressies, most of which arrive today and, because I was in the mood, got round to wrapping up my Twelve Days of Christmas gifts.  There's one that ought to be opened first but the others will be a sort of lucky dip - close eyes and grab!

Today starts with Slimming World, as usual, and then the day's my own.  I might take a drive out somewhere and I have decided that I want to go back to HomeSense to see if there are any of the Christmas Spode plates and bowls left.  There may not be - HomeSense is a bit 'when it's gone, it's gone' - but it's worth a look, I think.
I also have some ironing to do and need to do just a bit of tidying before the lovely cleaners arrive.

Have a great day, whatever your plans.  Stay safe and happy, everyone.  xx

  1. Well done with the spreadsheet. I like working with excel but sadly have forgotten a lot.
Off to London to visit the Mithraeum and Guildhall. Should be fun (never mind cultural!) :-)

  2. I first used excel as a TA in Year 5 many many moons ago when the children learnt IT - as did I alongside them! I never listened so hard to the teacher input in those lessons! The children quickly exceeded my skills and have adapted to creating word documents BUT will have another look and listen to him, - his voice was kinda annoying ( said in his voice ) but very easy to follow. If I learn now, then when I do need it, I will thank you and Blogland for helping me hahah.

    1. I had training, of course, but in Y1 we used a very much simpler program, basically a graph creator really.
Good luck. I think it has worked this time because I really needed to get to grips with it. xx

  3. Think I need to revisit spreadsheets as my notebook system is very messy! Thanks for the push! Catriona

  4. Good for you! You are so well organized. Youtube is fabulous for learning things, isn't it? Hope you found what you wanted at Home Sense.

    1. It really is, Steph. I have only properly discovered YouTube over the past few years and I'm loving it. There's so much to learn there.
I didn't go out in the end - there's always another day. xx

  5. Well done with the Excel spreadsheet. I know what you mean about being proud of what you've created as I'm exactly the same with Excel - the one I created for myself is very basic but it works and that's the important thing. xx

    1. Absolutely! My finances are not very complicated. All I need to know it what I have coming in, what I have/am spending or committed to for the month and what I have left over (if anything). I know it relies on me updating regularly but I am OK about doing that.
Thank you so much and well done to you too. xx

  6. Well done. I still don't have the courage to do one myself, but since I enter all the figures, I think Harvey can set it all up for me. He got very used to doing them at work and while I have done loads of picture files, word documents and such I do those as well.

    God bless.

  7. I've played the first bit of that YouTube video - very good, will be settling down to have a proper look. My stuff really is the most simple and it could do with being a bit cleverer. Thank you for finding that.

    1. Grr! cat hit send before I was ready... Meant to also say... glad you decided to have a go with excel, and that you were able to set up something that gives you what you needed. I never manage to find the good stuff on YouTube so would never have found that tutorial, so thank you.
