Wednesday

Good morning.  Another misty start to the day today, fairly cool but not cold enough to need to turn up the heating.  We have rain predicted for this morning and maybe even a storm although I can't say it feels like it at the moment.  Time will tell.

The dentist visit was interesting.
Where I had the tooth extracted hasn't 'settled' (whatever that means) enough to start the implant procedure yet.  I have another appointment in a moth and a half and, yes, that will be a talk, measure, discuss 'what we can do' (his words), etc.
However, he took the opportunity to have a bit of a scrape at some of my teeth, muttered a bit about this, that and the other as he's not happy at the way some of my teeth are wearing down and gave me an appt with the dental hygiene lady who happened to have a gap in her appointments.  She did various stuff, none of which hurt, asked how I brush my teeth (more or less correctly, as it happens), checked them with disclosing stuff (I seem to brush my teeth very well, she said) and then gave me a tooth brushing demo before giving my teeth a fluoride treatment.
It turns out they are having a bit of a push with dental hygiene and trialling some new thing, something I'm quite happy to go along with.
Most of this was unexpected but not unwelcomed.  I did mutter at some point in last year's treatment about looking after my remaining gnashers a bit better so it's all good.

I now have an electric toothbrush and some flosser thingies arriving today from Amazon.  May as well do it properly!  Also, I have a return visit a week Friday so I must do my homework!

I was back in time for my chat with Dad at the usual time although I'd warned him that we might have to have it on Thursday instead.  All's pretty much well his end.

Matt emailed to say he will be here at 9:30 today to finish off the work.

So - today.  Matt, of course, and then nothing until a chat with Val at two.  No personal training today.  The back is so much better but I'm taking no risks so PT is on Friday this week and I am so glad I have a trainer who is flexible and understanding.

I'm really hoping they get it wrong about rain this morning because, if it remains dry, I want to go and get those beans sown.  It's been frustrating, not getting to the allotment this week.

So it's quite a gentle day apart from paying Matt's bill which will be a bit ouch but there you go - home ownership is an expensive business and things have to be done and paid for, don't they?

I'd better get going.  There's stuff to do in the kitchen and elsewhere.  Have a great day and be safe.  xx

  1. My daughter has been unable to get an appointment to take her two children to the dentist - no-one seems able to take them on for a checkup. I switched to an electric brush and wouldn't be without now.

    1. That must be very frustrating for her. I guess things will ease off and maybe I'm lucky in that my practice was used as a centre in the first lockdown so stayed open although just for emergencies. They were kept very busy!
Thanks for the positive review. When I asked her what the advantages were she said none, in terms of doing a good job providing you already do a good job but it does the hard work for you. That's enough for me!! :-)

  2. My paving is all green and in need of a pressure wash which hopefully the graders will do at some point. I bought an electric toothbrush going cheap on Amazon and have been delighted with it. Hope the back sorts itself out do take care.

    1. I'm looking forward to starting using it when it arrives (today, hopefully).
The back is improving slowly, thankfully.
      Thanks, Diane. xx

  3. You're so casual about the dentist now! Makes me smile :) I always find the cleaning quite unpleasant, so I'm glad it went smoothly for you.

    1. < rueful smile > I'm not really, I wish I was. I knew beforehand that this time wasn't going to involve anything invasive (not knowing about the hygienist thing) and I know the next major visit won't be either, it will be measuring and talking about what could be done. The one after that, should we go ahead, will not be nice but that's in the future - probably May time at some point. I may very well hold it back until after my (hoped for) delayed holiday in Southwold.

  4. I did switch to an electric toothbrush for a while at the Van but then switched back to a manual. My last dentist said either was fine as long as you brush carefully and thoroughly and it sounds as though you do a really good job. It's funny how they say that to you and then give you another lecture and demonstration on brushing!!

I was going to give the electric one another go and then I realised I have no way of charging it at the moment, so that will have to wait then!!

    1. I laughed! It's a programme they are going through, I think. It wasn't much of a lecture really.

  5. I've always heard good things about electric toothbrushes. I wasn't keen the last time I used one but I think it was more because I'm so used to using a manual. Perhaps it's time to give it another try.
I always feel quite proud when I get a glowing report from the hygienist. She never gives me a sticker though 🤷‍♀️

    1. That's not fair - you should get your sticker, definitely!
      Good for you!

  6. Yes, home ownership is expensive. I love the benefits of it being mine, though. Some of the renters here are having to leave as rents rise. Good luck with the new teeth cleaning regime.

    1. Oh, it's worth every penny, I agree. It's a security, especially now the mortgage has been paid off, and a great investment too.

  7. It's a shame that the dentist couldn't make a start but you don't sound anywhere near as anxious as you used to about the dentist, so maybe the delay and a return visit isn't the ordeal it once was. In the meantime I hope the issue with the back tooth sorts itself out and the implant can go ahead.

    1. I'm not - yet. Just wait until the date gets closer though. Carpe diem - especially at this time of pandemic. I don't think it's an issue as such, it's just not been quite long enough since the extraction. I had the tooth out at the beginning of January and he likes to wait three months before starting implant treatment.
      Thanks.

  8. I use Soft Picks (kind of like a toothpick) which not only clear out debris between my teeth but also stimulate the surrounding gums. I much prefer them to dental floss.

    1. I looked those up and they're similar to what I ordered - little brushy things, quite cute really. I need to decant them into a pot to keep in the bathroom cupboard - somewhere. Maybe it's time to give that space a clear out. :-)

  9. I have a waterpik flosser. I love it! My dental hygienist recommended it as it gets in those pesky bits that you can't always get to. I couldn't get the hang of the electric toothbrush though lol. I might give it another go but I found myself still brushing my teeth lol. Habit I suppose.
