Good morning!
Yesterday's plans seemed to work out OK. I got to the allotment, mowed, strimmed and weeded, got chilled to the bone so decided to stay inside when I got home rather than work on my own garden. Quite apart from the early rhubarb, the other three crowns are doing very nicely now. Loads to p[ick in a fortnight, I think. I hope the neighbours have some.
I received an exciting email. A few days ago I applied to be part of the online audience for a recording of Have I Got News For You, one of my favourite shows and, guess what, I have a ticket! It's for May 6th and the email contained all sorts of info about connections, etc.
Just one problem - Because of feedback problems, one has to have the sound turned off and use headphones. Not so easy when one have hearing aids so I did something I've been intending to do for ages and have ordered a 'personal inductive neckloop' that I can plug in to my PC (or laptop, phone, etc) and which one wears around the next as a personal loop system (as the name says). If it works, it should help me with Zoom chats and meetings, etc, as well. If it doesn't, I'll have to think again.
Fingers crossed, eh?
Today, being Sunday, Beth and Alex are round for Sunday roast. I'm looking forward to that. Apart from this, I have no other specific plans so I'm looking forward to a gentle, lazy late afternoon and evening.
I'd better go and start prepping those vegetables for lunch. Have a lovely day and stay safe and well. xx
Enjoy your Sunday roast.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was chilly yesterday and grey here again today
All the Zoom things I attend we are required to mute the sound (unless of course we are required to speak). Muting the sound, however, does not require wearing headphones. How you listen is up to you and it will make no difference to the source provider. Hope that helps. Your day today sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm confused. If I mute the sound, how can I hear? I need the microphone on because they want live audience reaction. Laughs, and so on.

To add - the info says that if the sound is up, it gets picked up by the microphone and causes feedback. Hence the sound has to be off but not muted.

Sorry to have confused you Joy. I meant mute the microphone which is the microphone symbol which gets a red cross through it when you mute it. In fact the Zoom administrator normally mutes everybody himself/herself in order to achieve the same thing anyway. It stops the feedback as you say. You can still hear the sound of course in whatever way you want, i.e. via headphones or just coming straight out of your speaker on your device. They won't know how you are listening. I suspect they are advising headphones as a kind of belt and braces.
DeleteWell, they specifically ask for this so - well, we will see. They want the microphone on.
DeleteIt is something I've been meaning to get anyway. :-)
xx
Ah I see. I don't listen to Have I got News For You so perhaps they want to hear you heckle or laugh or something! Just ignore me! xx
DeleteLaugh, certainly and clap. It's recorded live in front of an audience, you see. In more normal times, the audience would be in the studio but at the moment it's an online audience.

That is exciting and something to look forward to. I hope you get your hearing thingy sorted. Sunday Roast...delicious! I have tried and tried but it never tastes the same here, the nearest I get to it is when it is Roast Chicken. Another one of the things to add to my list for when I can get home to see the family. keep well Amanda x
ReplyDeleteI love slow roast lamb, I really do. It's not really appropriate for just one person though.

I hope the neck loop works for you. I think HIGNFY works just as well with a virtual audience. Hope you enjoy the experience.
ReplyDeleteI agree and it certainly works a lot better than the ones they tried with no audience at all. Having the live laughter makes quite a difference to the atmosphere and that works online as well.
DeleteI'm really looking forward to it.
The loop should arrive today so plenty of time to test it out.
xx
That's so exciting about tickets for your favorite show, Joy! I haven't heard of that show here in the US. I'll have to look it up. Your garden looks great! I admire all of the hard work you put into your allotment. Take care and enjoy your Sunday!
ReplyDeleteIt's a very UK thing, Debbie. It's basically a satire/alternative and cynical look at the week's news events, some UK and some world wide. Your ex-president has featured quite a lot in the past . . .
DeleteThanks for the kind comments - I'm enjoying the work and looking forward to the rewards.
xx
How exciting for you.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It really is. It clashes with my Slimming World meeting but, just for once, SW loses out! :-)

I love Have I Got News for you, that's so exciting! Hope you get the sound sorted out, I'll be scanning the feeds during the show to see if I can spot you :)
ReplyDeleteHee hee! I wonder if you will be able to. Better make sure my hair is tidy!
