Monday: Advent day six

Good morning!  What a lovely weekend it has been (apart from healthy eating!!!).  It was so nice to have Beth and Alex round on Saturday and that Beth stayed the night.
Weather wise, yesterday started off horrible, turned pleasantly sunny and finished off wet and miserable again.  It seems dry at the moment but we will see.

Yesterday was nice.  Beth stayed until mid afternoon in the end.  She hadn't slept well so went back upstairs after breakfast to try and grab some more sleep.  She's still not all that well as I hope she'll be OK today.

She helped me get the snow village set up and I managed to get a few photos although the lack of light did make it tricky.  I'm really pleased with the results.

Today's decoration thing is the knitted nativity.  It has a background, of course, because I already have a nativity set up.
Around four or five years ago so not long after retirement, some of you may remember I started knitting a Jean Greenhowe nativity set.  When I had nearly finished, I took it all over to Letchworth as I knew Mum would be very interested.  She really loved them and, afterwards, Dad suggested that maybe I could make a set of figures for Mum, if I had the time.  Well, I knitted and knitted and got them finished in time to wrap them up and give them to her on Christmas day - it was the last Christmas they were able to come over to my home for Christmas.  She was thrilled and they came out a couple of Christmasses- or maybe it was just the once, I forget now.
After Mum passed away, I suggested to Dad that I put them up for him but he said no - this was before the first lockdown.  Last Christmas we were actually in lockdown of course but I know they remained in the attic.
Now that Dad has also gone, I brought them back home again.
So, although I already have one set up, this set also has to be on display this year and it is going on the lovely table I also inherited.  Next year I will probably put it up in my bedroom instead.

This is an old photo and it is too bright, sorry  - I'll see if I can get a better one today.

Apart from that, Jeff cones after eleven to get some order out of the chaos that is my front 'garden', I have online circuit training and tuition after school.  I may be wearing my Santa hat earlier and taking some of the gift exchange pressies round to the girls as we are having our online chat this coming Friday and I volunteered to get everything to the right people.  Fingers crossed I don't mess it up.

Here's today's Christmas music.  It's a great favourite of mine although there's a bit of talky stuff first which you are totally free to fast forward past if you wish.
It's 'When a Child is Born' preformed by Johnny Mathis, who else?

  1. That's a lovely nativity set you've knitted and your snow village looks amazing. I'm hoping that by the end of the week our house will be looking all Christmassy.

  2. Your knitted nativity is lovely Joy. I finally got round to making it myself this year after many years pondering the challenge. I have added an angel character as well. I shall blog mine nearer to Christmas though. It is good to have Christmas things that have a family history to display.
Also the snow village is fab too x

    1. Not so many now - things like cushions, etc, mostly. Oh, and the candles, I have them still in containers. They are < looks at plan > for Wednesday.

  5. The snow village looks lovely and nice you have a large enough space to lay it out. My MIL had the knitted set but when she died my SIL took it back with her, just as well really as I wouldn't have anywhere to display quite so well as you have. x

    1. Thank you - they look deceptively simple but you're right, there's some quite fiddly knitting involved. It was good fun.
