Monday

Morning, everyone.  Monday again and the start of half term round here.  Here's hoping the weather is good or at least dry.

I got a fair bit done yesterday.  As always, things took longer than anticipated and you'd think I'd have expected that at at my age.

The herbs and spices are now sorted and much more accessible.  There were a whole load of herbs in particular that didn't have any fragrance at all.  Goodness only knows how old they were.  They all went straight out.  The spices weren't so bad as I tend to use them more; herbs come from the garden where possible.  Despite all the stuff that went in the bin, there's nothing I need to actually replace as I have recently replaces things like paprika, chilli flakes, etc - things I use more.

The high cupboards were easily dealt with, apart from the one with the medical box.  Must do that one this week.

I got a fair bit of washing done but not much ironing.  That's carried over to today - probably this evening, in fact.

Them, in the evening, Strictly and knitting kept me busy.  They're also reshowing a series called Back in Time for School so I caught up with that as far as it's gone on iPlayer.  I really loved the Back in Time series and wonder if they will do another one at some point.
(I've just Googled and, yes, Back in Time for Birmingham, scheduled for 2022 - yay!)

On to today.  It starts off with my appointment at the audiology section of Specsavers for which I have received notification on both mobile and as email.  They've learnt!  I'm hoping there will be time for a little wander around H&M and Wilkinson's as well.
Then it's home for breakfast and then circuit training, after which I have an afternoon of goodie baking.  Christmas cake and birthday cheesecake (Beth's birthday tomorrow).  I'll tackle the cake first and, while that's slowly scenting the whole house, I'll do the basics of the cheesecake which is a no-bake one.

Here it is, scanned from the Good Food's Homemade Christmas magazine.  I'll make the cake today and decorate it tomorrow.  No point having temptation in the house any more than necessary, is there?
( sorry, it scanned squiffy)

And then, in the evening, telly, ironing and knitting.
A nice, positive, productive day today.  It should be fun; I hope yours is too.  xx

  1. The cheesecake looks so richly delicious. Although looking at it before I'd even had breakfast wasn't a good idea!

  2. I was at school through most of the 50s and early 60s so was looking forward to watching Back In Time For School. There wasn't anything that I could relate to apart from having to wear a uniform although we had to keep our shirts neatly tucked in not showing under jumpers or cardigans, the girls also had to wear white ankle socks not tights as shown, in fact tights weren't around then. The type of building for a Secondary School was also like the one I attended. So, it was a disappointment for me and my husband, who went to a Grammar School said it wasn't as he remembered.

    1. There were several bits that resonated with me and some that sounded more like the experience my best friend had - we went to different secondaries.
Tights were in in the sixties; I remember Mum wouldn't get me any. She said stockings were more economical - and probably they were.

  3. Sounds like a good day! Sorting through the herbs and spices is on my list. I need to do all the kitchen cupboards and see if everything is in date. I think that will be on my list next week. I know there are some bits I need to buy - tomato sauce, paste and a few tins of beans. Now that the weather is getting colder dinners tend to be a bit heartier if the men are working outside.

    1. It takes me ages to get around to it but I'm always glad when it's done. I felt 'stifled' when I looked at the spice shelf. Much better now.

  5. I'm not too keen on cheesecake but just realised that the topping is crunchie bars and Maltesers so I'm suddenly interested! Are you doing a similar topping? Happy Birthday for Beth for tomorrow in case I forget. xx

    1. Something similar. I've got crunchie, maltesers, ferrero rocher and daim bars. I will ask Beth to decorate it - she's so much better than I. xx

  6. I will be looking forward to the new Back in Time for Birmingham series in the New Year.
I am not going to show my hubby the picture of that cheesecake as he will be begging me to make one. It does look delicious though :)

  7. I love the series too and pleased they are continuing next year. I used to make the baked cheesecakes but they really are too big for the two of us now - I need a family to cook for again so I can make such goodies.

    1. At this one isn't baked, one can reduce the amounts to whatever you want and make a much smaller one, using a small container as a mould. I has plans!!
