Saturday

Hello again, everyone.  Yesterday may have been cold but it was a very pleasant day indeed.  Nice and sunny moist of the time and very cheering.  It looks as if today will be more of the same but perhaps not as sunny.

Cherie, these are the napkins I mentioned in my comment of your blog.  They're not the colour I would choose but Mum always liked brown and she got a lot of pleasure from hand sewing the patchwork pattern (she didn't make the actual napkins).

Yesterday turned out to be a series of changed plans.  Jackie couldn't make the chat as she had to take the car in for something or other.  Chris and I decided the afternoon chat was just too uncertain so we've rescheduled for this morning.

And finally, fantastic news, yesterday morning Beth (as an NHS employee) was able to book a vaccine for yesterday evening.  I took her, intending to drive around if there were parking problems.  Parking at Broomfield hospital is notorious.   However, it turned out to be fine, Beth got her first vaccine and that's two out of the five I worry most about done for the time being.  I know the jury is still out on how specifically effective it is but it's certainly better than nothing, isn't it?

This morning, the reason why I'm up and dressed early is because I'm going round to Morrisons to get the things that I couldn't get in the last shop plus a few items that have some to mind since.  Morrisons opens at seven so I'll be there soon after that, avoiding the crowds.  I don't think they do the NHS hour any more but, if they do, I will just come back and try again an hour later.  :-)

I'm hoping and expecting that Chris and I will get our much delayed chat today.  There's plenty to talk about so it should be enjoyable.

After that, it's going to be a lazy day after several comparatively busy days.  I'll finish off the ironing, sort things out in the kitchen and then the day's my own.  Lovely.
What are you planning for today?  xx

  1. Fabulous news about Beth's vaccination and hopefully she'll get the second dose in three/four weeks too! The extended period of 12 weeks worries me, I'm no expert but I don't think this was intended when the vaccine was developed.
I don't normally shop on a Saturday but we're expecting heavy snow tomorrow morning down here so I better head to Sainsbury's soon.

    1. It worries me too, and it worries a lot of experts as well. Not a lot you or I can do about it though.
It's supposed to be just light snow here after some sleet, so I doubt it will amount to anything - you are very wise to get your shopping done beforehand.

  2. I have been to several shops since this lock down started and have come across no queues, inside or out. I have been to Asda Tesco Morrison Sainsbury and a home bargains. I have also found that there are no empty spaces on the shelfs. I go in day light hours. It can be very difficult to get parking at Broomfield, but strangely have found it easier during this lock down than before. { my mum had a cancer scare which was dealt with very quickly at Broomfield}. So pleased that Beth got her jab, one thing less on your mind. My mum had hers at the Old Hofmans site in the week, again parking was fine and even though she was early no queues.
Hope everyone has a good weekend as is possible

    1. no, it's been good round here, both in numbers and in stocks of everything, it's just that it's better to fewer people there are. I must say, everyone is very courteous and thoughtful of others whenever I've been shopping but it makes sense to me to go earlier. Apart from avoiding crowds, I also don't add to them either.
Beth and I thought that yesterday. Very light on traffic and, although we went the other way, no row of cars turning left for the car park. I guess people just aren't visiting right now.
I'm glad your Mum has had hers too. One less thing to worry about, definitely.

  3. Those lovely napkins have set me thinking. My Christmas red napkins could do with a makeover. I'm thinking snowmen as I have a large snowman die and can cut the templates from cardboard. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. Snowmen would be lovely and Christmas trees too would be simple and work well. I look forward to seeing the results. xx

  4. I'm glad to hear that Beth has had her first vaccination. I too am concerned about the delay proposed for the second jab but can also see the thinking behind getting as many people as possible with some level of protection.

Your early trip to the shops had set me thinking. Two of the big supermarkets stay open until midnight so it may be worth me driving down to see how busy they are late at night. It could solve my shopping problems.

    1. Honestly, I think it would be well worth the effort to take a look and see.

I can see the reasoning behind each way too. It's a case of the devil and the deep blue sea really, isn't. Whichever way it goes, there are plusses and minuses. Difficult.

  5. Great news about the vaccine. I shop early, too. My local grocery store opens at 6:00 a.m. Fabulous!

  6. Good news about the vaccine! My son and husband were able to get it as they work (as contractors) for Pfizer and the company was offering those who work there the vaccine. I was glad they both said they would get it.
