Saturday

Good morning, everyone.  It doesn't seem as cold today although that might just be because there's no frost as it is cloudy.  There's still plenty of ice on Dad's garage roof!

Yesterday was quite busy.  I took Dad to the barbers in the morning and Mum to the hairdressers in the afternoon.  There was plenty of washing, drying and ironing plus meals to cook, etc.  It all went well and it was a most satisfying day really.

Today, I expect, will be more of the same.  I'm planning a cottage pie for dinner so will get the mince cooked and ready this morning and I'm hoping to be able to get a good walk this afternoon as there wasn't really time for one yesterday.

Today's advent offering is sung by the best boy band in the world - the King's Singers!! Wonderful, wonderful vocal brilliance.  Enjoy!
Gaudete!

  1. Lovely voices and an interesting different carol. Funnily I was discussing carols with a friend who sings in a choir and commented that when I hear carols they come to me in the first language I first learnt them so silent night comes in German [ my grandmother was Vienese] and oh come all ye faithful, comes as Adeste Fidelis. That's my convent education coming through.

  2. And Silent Night as Stille Nacht! I am so glad the choir at school (where I taught) were taught the German version as well as the English one.

  3. Stille Nacht, Adeste Fideles at Secondary school and the we had to learn the french version in order to teach it to P7 as part of there immersion week! I can still sing the first two word perfectly but the french version eludes me as I was so stressed trying to teach it one christmas that my memory has chosen to erase the trauma!! We have a little snow here this morning near Glasgow with an amber warning about icy rain to follow.

  4. You've reminded me, Cariona, of another 'Il est ne le divine enfant' I learnt that in my first term at secondary school!
Take care in that freezing rain. It could get very nasty underfoot.

  5. It has been a very chilly morning here but has since turned wet and grey. Thankfully, I finished my errands in time and have spent the afternoon making gingerbread. Lily keeps singing carols randomly throughout the day. They've been learning them in school assembly in time for carols around the tree on the last day of term. X

  6. It's horrible here now - wind and rain. We drew the curtains before half past three to shut it all out.
It must be lovely to hear Lily singing carols.

  7. Oh, I just love your little knitted Nativity scene, Joy, as your header! I'm not in the least religious, but this is so pretty! I must play the King's Singers, shortly, too. Oh, I remember them when they were all young men! I also like your photo of the wreath on the door - is it your wreath? It's been a horrible day here but we watched Michael Caine in The Ipcress File on TV this afternoon, with a slice of chocolate stollen and a cup of coffee, and really enjoyed this aged cold war drama from 1965. Slow by today's standards but we had no difficulty hearing what the actors were saying!

  8. Hope it warms up a little! It was quite chilly here this morning though in the daytime it has been above freezing so that's been nice! There was ice on the ground when we went out for a walk. It means watching our feet more than the scenery! Have a good weekend!

  9. Margaret, thank you for your kind comment about the scene. I think it's really cute. I've made four now, all for other people. :-)

I lookled up about the King's Singers - the line up has changed over the years and there are now none of the original members in the group. I think they are amazing.

Sharon, me too. Walking can be so treacherous in such cold conditions. You have a good one too!

  10. I made a phonetic translation of Stille Nacht of the first and last verse once for Husband's choir. Still got it on file, it worked really well.
