Monday

Good morning, everyone.  I was right about yesterday - when the fog cleared, it was a nice, sunny day.  However, the mist didn't properly clear until the afternoon so there were only a few sunny hours before darkness but it was lovely and warm - incredibly warm for November.
It's misty again this morning so fingers crossed.

I enjoyed yesterday.  I did a bit of this, that and the other but generally I was thoroughly lazy.  I looked up my saved Festive recipes, found last year's planning which was helpful and, brought down some Christmas 'coffee table' Christmas books - Nigella, Delia (x2) and Nigel.  Jamie can join them in a few weeks!  Mind you, I had a panic as I couldn't find a single one of my Delia's books until I moved the covered clothes rack and they were behind it.  I KNEW I wouldn't have got rid of them!!

Wasn't the professionals' dance at the start of Strictly a lovely thing?  A simple, heartfelt, 'it's not about us' ballroom dance to my favourite melody and the costume was just perfect.  Definitely a tears in the eyes dance.
As for the result, I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched the show yet and wants to avoid spoilers but all I will say is it's a shame it happened like that but I think they made the right decisions.

Today, the only thing in the diary is the circuits class at Lindsey's but I have realised that I'm getting short on granular salt for water softener.  I tried to order online but they said there was none available for online ordering and delivery so I am going to pop over to B&Q after the school run this morning - hopefully they will have some there on the shelf, so to speak.  If not, I will need to search wider although it might be a 'national shortage' thing, I suppose.

And if I just happen to wander in the wrong direction and end up in the Christmas decorations, don't blame me!!  OK?

The rest of the day will be just ordinary things.  I need to take a number of items to the garage (such as my summer fans) and I'll probably make the most of the 'journey' by bringing some of my Christmas china into the house.  I'm in a 'clear the decks' sort of mood so I am sure the bin will be a bit fuller by the end of the day, hopefully!

Have a lovely day, everyone, and stay safe.  xx

  1. Mornin' Joy. It's a pea soup fog here so I won't be walking this morning. Strictly was wonderful and I always feel so sorry for the one going home but it was the right decision. You've inspired me to pull some cookery books out today. It'll be fun browsing through them. Have a smashing day. X

    1. Me too, however much 'deserved'. They work so hard and seem to have so much fun, don't they? And then, suddenly, nothing.
It's more a mist here than a fog. I wouldn't like to drive in the dark but I think it will be fine by around half past nine.

      Enjoy the books! :-) xx

  2. Its really misty here too. Makes it all look a bit spooky, but it is the season of 'mists and mellow fruitfulness' after all,and hopefully it means the sun might make an appearance . Must watch strictly tonight. Just been too busy with other things. . Glad you found all your cookery books in my opinion can't beat Delia though . Have a lovely day

    1. I agree - she's brilliant and I have never had a recipe of hers that hasn't worked just as she says it will. And she's sensible too!

  3. I always use Delia's recipe for my Christmas cake and it is always well received by my family.
We have a heavy mist here this morning but I am hoping it will lift soon and a little sunshine might break through for a while x

  4. Yep, full of greyness here too but the sun is now trying to poke through. Would you believe I missed the crucial bit of Strictly so I'm not sure what actually happened, I shall read about it in the papers later. However, I have my own theory!!
Yes, funny how these shortages occur suddenly, I know it's not a world shattering problem but yesterday I couldn't find any cottage cheese and was told there was a shortage in supply!!

    1. Cottage cheese? That's an interesting one.

I guess you know by now. xx

  5. Was the professionals' dance the one with the girls in red dresses? I don't watch Simply but saw that dance today on YouTube ... it was beautiful.

It's been a bit drab all day with a bit of rain this afternoon but I can't complain because it is November and we've been lucky with the milder days so far.

The impact of the Avian flu on the supply of eggs is noticeable already with lots of gaps on the shelf, presumably because there are no free range ones available now. The thing I've noticed is a shortage of some spices so I will have to go on a spice hunt ... can't be without my curries! xx

    1. Yes, that was the one. Stunning, wasn't it?
Eggs seem OK round here at the moment but were in short supply a couple of weeks ago. xx

  6. We've got in the habit of watching SCD on a Sunday and the results show on a Monday. So I have just seen the dance and it was very beautiful and brought a tear to my eye.

    1. Me too. They have done some pretty stunning dances during the whole of Strictly's life but I think this was the very best.

  7. We are getting light snow again today. I think that winter has arrived finally and seems to be here to stay. Hopefully I am prepared for this season. I may have to see if I can get Strictly on my Android box just to see what it is like.

    God bless.

    1. The USAs version is 'Dancing with the Stars'. I've never seen that but I am addicted to Strictly - it is a National Treasure nowadays, I think.
I'm sure you are fully prepared and let's hope it isn't too hard a winter. xx

  8. It sounds as though you're starting to think about and get ready for Christmas. I really need to get out my cookbooks and sort out some recipes.
