Morning, everyone.  It is September, possibly the first day of Autumn, depending on when you count it from.  I tend to go with the later date,  September 22nd this year but there's no doubt that it does feel autumnal already this year - some years it doesn't.
It's a cool, rather dull start to the day but the forecast is positive so I'm happy about that.  Yesterday turned out lovely and sunny and I'm hoping today will be the same.

I had a go at the sushi and here's the results.  I know it wouldn't pass any tests but it was actually quite tasty, especially the smoked salmon ones, and really not too shabby for a first go.

I halved the recipe I used for the rice and it still made absolutely loads.  The photo is just some.  I took some round to Beth, had some for lunch and there are three portions in the freezer - I'm not sure how it will freeze with the cucumber in it but I'm not wasting it!
It was a bit messy - that rice is VERY sticky - but not impossible and I enjoyed making it but next time I will just use 50g dry sushi rice at a time, not 250!  I should have realised really.  Also, I want to explore different fillings - smoked chicken, maybe, or tuna.  Any ideas?

I popped round to Beth's with her sushi and when I got home I saw the window cleaner had been.  That was pretty much the highlight of the day really.

Today is much more lively.
First of all, Chris is coming round for our weekly coffee and chat but an hour earlier than usual.  That's because I am due at Val's for eleven and we are popping down to Markshall Arboretum on the Markshall Estate which is not so far from Val's.

We've been before, quite a while ago now, but it was a cold, winter's day, very bleak, and we didn't explore all that much.  This time is is (hopefully) warm and sunny and the trees will be lovely.
It's not so far away from me really and it's about time I revisited Coggeshall anyway which is a bit south of the estate.  I could make a day of it.

So today is a much more exciting day all round really.

Have a lovely day yourself, too, whatever your plans.  xx

  1. Your sushi looks very good and glad you enjoyed it. We used to make it with our P7 pupils as part of their learning about Japan-what a mess but they enjoyed it nonetheless. Have a great day out-I am off to my u3a craft group this morning after a zoom call at 9am. Catriona

  4. That sushi looks amazing, well done. For someone who loves rice as much as I do it's weird that I just don't like sushi at all.

    1. That is odd. Is it the texture, perhaps? xx
