Sunday

Morning! Here I am, at Dad's, and it's been raining overnight which has rather put the clappers on me doing a bit of early morning gardening, darn it.

I did a fair bit yesterday afternoon but stopped when it got rather hot.  I rather wish I'd carried on now as the forecast isn't great until about three this afternoon but there you go!

Don't laugh, but when I was at Hyde Hall on Friday, I hovered by the seed area and ended up buying the first seeds for next year (I checked their dates first!).  After my success with growing tomatoes this year, I bought three - sungolds (of course), golden sunrise which is an early, mid-sized, big cropping, yellow tomato (it says on the packet) and some candy tots which are very sweet and prolific cherry tomatoes.  I've never tried the latter two and it's nice to try something new.  I want gardeners delight as well, of course and, if I had the space, I'd get myself a greenhouse or poly tunnel to grow them all in.  But I don't, so can't!  Oh, and maybe a plum tomato too as they are very fleshy and great for cooking.
I also got some baby corn seeds as they can be hard to find in spring.
Now I have to
a) remember I have bought them and
b) remember where I put them.
At least I shouldn't have any 'will I have tomatoes this year' come next spring and you never know - I might even got some in early.

I have no idea what will happen today but I am sure it will be slow and sedate.  I might take a walk down to Bickerdikes, the local garden centre, should the weather permit.
It will be good, whatever we do, because it is good to be here.
xx

  1. Good morning Joy. I'm a sucker for vegetable seeds but the very name Candy Tots made me want to Google them. I am growing rainbow chard and purple Kale for the first time ever and the little seedlings are popping up nicely. I've never eaten chard before but I am hoping it will be very pretty as I plan to put it in the flower border for some winter colour.

    1. It's lovely, isn't it. I love the minis that you just pick and eat although some of them do seem to have tough skins. We will see.
I'm none too fond of chard but kale sounds great. Rainbow chard does look lovely. We grew some at the allotment a few years back.
      Are they over-winter things?

  2. I'm not laughing if I had bought the butter dish when I saw it I wouldn't have been disappointed. There is a ver old gardening saying which is "One years seeding is seven years weeding" so seeds last a long time

    1. I've just read about the butter dish. How very frustrating for you.

  3. If you tell us where you store the seeds we can remind you when you forget where you've put them next year!

Would you be able to fit a poly tunnel in at the allotment?

    1. What a good idea. I plan to put them in my silver seed tin which sounds as Joy-proof as possible but I know me!!!
I'm not sure if there would be room or not, to be honest. It would mean moving stuff around quite a bit. Worth considering. Thanks

  4. Eileen has said what I was going to say plus you just need to know where you've put the seed tin!

  5. I usually keep any seeds in a clear container in one of the kitchen drawers. That way I'm constantly reminded where they are. This year I also made notes in my diary as to when to plant them. I'm almost a proper adult :) X

  6. Sungold tomatoes are delicious aren't they, I grew masses of them a couple of years ago and most got eaten while I was working in the polytunnel. Something for you to look forward to for next year.

I have a box of seed packets somewhere and I cannot for the life of me find them, so do remember where you have put them!!

    1. They are my favourites and really delicious. Whatever we you else I have, I must have sungolds.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one to be likely to forget.!

  7. I'd be terrible about wondering where I put them. I suppose I have to have a 'place' where everything goes, but I don't lol.

    1. I have a basket with stuff in that I keep in the car right now but that won't continue over the winter.

  8. Glad that you found the seeds you wanted. We will more than likely buy them in the spring of next year. I would totally lose them all if I bought them this early.

    God bless.
