Saturday

Good morning, everyone.  Thanks very much for giving me a bit of space to get my head back in its rightful place again - which sounds weird but I know what I mean!  It was the virus really - it's taken over two weeks but really seems to have given up at last.  Unusually, for me, as well as feeling physically yucky, it also had quite an effect on my 'mental health'; that sounds more dramatic than reality but I was very down and lacking in mental ooomph.
I still have a cough and some snuffles but definitely and properly on the up again at last.  Phew.
Cherie - how are you?

I haven't really done very much since Tuesday.  The blanket is coming on and my stash is considerably smaller.  Beth has had a birthday and we went to the Hare yesterday evening to celebrate, which was nice.
I got to SW yesterday after a week away and won the raffle!  Chris came round on Thursday and then Val and I enjoyed a good laugh with both of them at separate times.  Chris' new little grandson is coming on and his mum and dad loved the blanket.  Phew.

The dried fruits ended up steeping in alcohol for a week before I made the cake but it now all smells wonderful and should be so good by Christmas.  I think I'm going simple this year and just cut out icing stars to decorate it (as well as the marzipan and all-over icing, of course).  But that is for the last week before Christmas - in the meanwhile, it will be 'fed' weekly!

Today I plan to resume doing what used to be called my 'daily dozen'; in other words a bit of exercising.  I think it will do me the world of good as long as I am sensible.  Apart from that, the only plans I have are domestic ones.
WHat do you have planned for today?

  1. Welcome back! And I'm glad you're feeling brighter. I think we can all understand the need for a bit of head space now and again, especially if you've been feeling under the weather.
Congratulations on winning the raffle., and belated birthday wishes to Beth. Xx

  3. Good to hear that you are feeling better. I may just be unaware but can't remember hearing you ever feeling this low following a cold, even a heavy one. Could it be connected to long COVID, I wonder?
I finally managed to get some ready rolled icing at Waitrose, pleased about that!

    1. I don't think I have ever but I guess there's always a first time! The tests didn't show Covid but you never know.

Really glad you got your icing.

    1. The tests didn't show Covid but I'm glad I isolated anyway. Whatever it was, it was not something I'd be glad to hand around!

  5. Glad you are feeling better! Your fruit will be delicious in the cake after soaking for a week. I just got done reading Annabelle’s Christmas cake recipe. Sounds delicious!

  6. So happy to hear you’re feeling better. We’ve both experienced the “blahs” after the virus and it does take time. Slow and steady, lady. Wishing you a better week!

  7. Nice to hear that you are on the mend - I'm having a very lazy Saturday, raining here, me and dogs curled up on sofa. Saving my strength for watching Strictly!!!

    1. It's beautifully sunny here. A shame about the rain but you sound very cosy and comfortable. Take care and enjoy Strictly. xx

  8. Glad you took some time away to yourself-rest and more rest seems to be the cure for this nasty bug. A friend has had Covid twice and says this bug a few weeks ago has left her exhausted both mentally and physically worse than Covid did. Have a gentle weekend and watch Strictly. Catriona

  10. Glad you are feeling a little better. Good to have you back. I do hope you start feeling better soon. It's really knocked you down, hasn't it? I think that takes a toll on your mental health after a while.

  11. It sounds odd to say that I'm glad this virus hasn't only affected me exactly how you describe. Glad you are getting over it. Blimmin thing is still hanging onto me. I'm exhausted all the time.
