Wednesday: Advent day fifteen

Morning, everyone.  Yesterday was another 'mild and fairly sunny with dull bits' day.  Quite pleasant but not really December weather.

I set off for Runwell giving myself forty minutes and I was there in thirty, even with going through town.  It was all extremely well organised even though it was pretty busy and I didn't have to queue for long.
The main problem, for me, was that the nurse who was dealing with me had a very 'thick' accent with slurred consonants and I just couldn't make out what she was saying, even when she lowered her mask.  Fortunately, a supervising nurse noticed our difficulty and came to help out.
She may have been hard to understand but she was jolly competent with a needle - I didn't feel a thing.
I stayed on the pain killers for the rest of the day, just to be on the safe side.

When I got home, I felt so cheerful at having had my booster that I sorted out the guest room completely so it is now ready for when Beth stays over, I made a shopping list, went to Morrisons, came home and made the Christmas biscotti (actually on the calendar for today).

They taste great!

And finally, I dug out the stollen recipe I like to use - Delia's of course, although my fruity ingredients will be a lot more ordinary than hers and I adapt it to Thermione.  It's a bit of a tradition to have biscotti and stollen over Christmas and, as I am marzipanning the Christmas cake on Friday, that's where the spare marzipan will go - into the stollen.  Luvverley!

Today, the only thing in the diary is personal training with Lindsey.  Fortunately, there's plenty to keep me going for the rest of the day.  Son Dave has confirmed that the meat he is providing for Christmas dinner is pork so I will look up some recipes and ideas although I suspect everyone is expecting pigs in blankets and stuffing, same as always!  However, I reckon a nice, spicy apple sauce might be a good add on.  The kitchen needs a bit of a tidy up as there's lots of bits and pieces on the side that need putting away.  I need just a few items for the stollen; this is pretty much the only time I get things specifically - mostly I make do and substitute.  Finally, there's ironing, there's pretty much always ironing.  I will do that first thing while I catch up on my YouTube vlogging.

I have a bit of a sore arm and neck and I do feel rather 'weary' (after a great night's sleep) but nothing worse (yet), for which I am very thankful.
(The neck might be from circuits on Monday anyway!)

Today's Advent music is that lovely carol 'Stille Nacht', sung in the original German by the King's Singers to an arrangement by John Rutter.

  1. Morning Joy. Glad you got your booster ok and hope that today your sore arm and neck clear up quickly. I've never tried stollen before so maybe I should give it a try soon.
    Have a lovely day x

    1. Thank you.
Stollen is basically a sweet dough bread with marzipan in It's a very wet dough which is why I like to use the Thermomix. Less messy!
It freezes well which is just as well because it does go stale quite quickly.

  2. Every where I watch or read people are making biscotti ... maybe it's a sign I should too, it's something that I have never made although I really love the stuff, with black coffee to dunk it in it's delightful.

We both had our boosters this morning and up to now we have had no side effects. Although Alan was monitored for longer than usual and had to have a word with the Dr due to his thrombosis after his first shot. It's nice to know we are a bit more protected isn't it.

    1. I meant to ask, who is your favourite YouTube vlogger?

    2. I tend to go for the 'losing weight' vloggers and my favourite is Tracy Mouse. I enjoy the Frugal Queen's vlogs although I'm not sure I 'like' her - which is a silly thing to say really but you know what I mean.

      What are yours?

Well done for getting your boosters done. It must have been a bit of a worry after the problems and I'm glad it all seems to have gone smoothly.

Biscotti are a doddle but it takes a bit of time, being a two step recipe. What they don't always say is let it cool pretty much to cold after the first baking because it is easier to slice - and use a good serrated bread knife and little movements! :-)
It's nice dunked in drinking chocolate too!

    3. I know exactly what you mean about Frugal Queen. It's just her school teacher-ish manner of delivery, but then that's just Jane. I do love the content, I just feel as though I'm being lectured a bit. But she is proving to be really helpful teaching lots of new subscribers about her frugal ways, so I'm glad she's found her niche.

Just recently in my current situation I've been enjoying some of the younger 'non-influencer' style vloggers for their energy and joy of life (Grackle, Extra Grackle and Click for Taz spring to mind) but I also quite like Frugal Jo for her frugal tips and Sopherina for her shopping hauls and taste tests. I think I've shared links to all of them on various Weekend Watching posts.

  3. Glad you got the booster over and done with, and hope the soreness doesn't hang about for too long.

The biscotti looks delicious. You know, you don't have to jeopardise your weight loss by tasting these ... you only have to ask and I'll happily take on the role of 'Official Taster' for you. 😀

    1. It didn't thanks, it feels pretty much fine now. Nothing more than you might expect if someone jabbed a needle in your arm! :-)

One day, maybe, we will be able to meet up and taste test or whatever - that would be nice.

Ironing or potential ironing! Part of life's rich pattern.
Glad you like the carol. There are so many lovely ones, aren't there?
