Good morning, everyone. It's back to dull this morning, comfortably cool so the windows are all open and I've just put a load of washing out!
After allotmenting yesterday, I went round to Beth's and finally got started on helping Al to clear his room of junk. We started but it will take more than one session, especially with all his uni stuff to go through as well. I came home with two bags full of washing, most of which has now been done. Thank goodness for the warm, dry weather - perfect for drying on the outside line.
I'm sure there will be more but it is a good start!
I've officially finished the last tuition sessions of the school year apart from the 11 plussers who will carry on because the test is in September (it used to be February when my two were that age) and a couple of catch ups because of missed sessions. A nice long time to get ahead with resources and ideas.
Today, this morning will be quite busy, this afternoon less so. One of the books on Essex churches that I ordered from Amazon might arrive today (impressively quick) so, if it does, it will be nice to start looking through and planning a few more trips.
I may not post tomorrow or Sunday, it all depends, but I will definitely be back on Monday. I won't vanish!
Thank you for letting us know you may not post.
ReplyDeleteWhilst I’d be the first to acknowledge that everyone who blogs has the absolute right to chose
the frequency and duration of their blogging I am getting a bit twitchy when a blogger's
posting habits change.
We seem to have had so much sadness in the blogging world this year.
Bullying, personal problems and needing a change have all affected some of my “friends”.
I read your blog from the beginning when I discovered it and have enjoyed every part of it.
Following you though retirement and Beth and Al’s progress has been fascinating.
Now I am anxious to see Al through university as I consider that the three of you have achieved
a huge amount over the years. Well done to all of you.
Sue
I must say I didn't know the eleven plus still existed - I don't remember my girls sitting the exam they automatically moved from primary to the local secondary school.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your planning - will you be making a start this weekend?
Unlike Beachcomber, I've not been with you from the start, Joy, but I've certainly been reading you for a couple of months or more and really enjoy your blot although sometimes I don't comment, and sometimes my comments are very brief.
ReplyDeleteIt's also nice to read about someone who is just starting in the retirement phase of their life - husband and I have been retired for 20 years and several months now, but it's gone in a flash, truly. But we didn't plan to do anything, we have just taken each day as it has come. My writing kept me busy until very recently, and husband taught himself AutoCAD on his computer and also 3D computer drawing with a program called Inventor. He was a senior engineer during this working life, in the electronics industry, but 3D was a whole new ball game for him, but he did it, just to prove to himself that he could do it. It will be interesting to hear about your church visits in due course, Joy.
Post when you feel like it, that is what I do.

I meant blog, not blot! Fingers again!

Have a great day and may your washing all dry before the storms hit if they actually do we keep hearing of rain but have yet to see any
ReplyDeleteThank you, everyone. Such lovely, encouraging comments.
ReplyDeleteSue: No need to be twitchy for me - I may very well be able to post, it depends. This weekend is going to be a bit busy, that's all. It's been a rough old year for bloggers in the particular 'circle' I inhabit, some of it unavoidable, of course, but some of it deliberately inflicted and that's so hard to understand.
Following from the beginning is great! THanks for sticking with me. Looking back, it's quite a story in a quiet, understated way and Alex has been one of the central pillars, bless him.
Viv: Parts of the country still have the 11+, Essex being one of them. This weekend I will be busy but as I haven't 'lost' any of my current students, I will know what to look for and in which direction to go, which is very helpful. A bit several times each week will put me ahead.
Margaret: I really appreciate your comments and always enjoy reading them, whether I 'agree' or not. My dad always says 'If you don't use it, you lose it' and I think that's so true on many different levels. It would be too easy to stop pushing on through, especially when one is as lacking in confidence as I am, and I think you and your husband are to be congratulated on making and maintaining a great retirement for yourselves.
Diane: It's not looking great round here but maybe it will hold off. To get some rain, even if it were a sudden downpour, would be helpful, although really we need several days of steady rain to really replenish the garden/allotment and that ain't going to happen!
Thanks, everyone!
If I lived on my own, Joy, I am sure I would be far less confident; having husband's support has been one of the great joys of my life.

I think that is really lovely - truly I do, Margaret. xxx
ReplyDeleteI have to clarify a comment that I made in my original comment.
ReplyDeleteJoy,when I said I had read your posts from the beginning, I meant that when I discovered your blog I went back and read it from the beginning rather like a book.
I'm sorry to lead you and one or two others into thinking that I’d been alongside all the time. ( Iwould have been there if I’d known about it.)
Alex is an amazing boy and a grandson to be proud of!
Sue
Gotcha! Well, thank you for reading right back, it's much appreciated. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're right about Alex although, at 20, he's a man now, rather than a boy. I find it hard to believe he is 20!
