Friday

Good morning, everyone.  The big news around here is that Sunny Essex is going up into Tier Two.  The reason seems to be that 'they' (the county council or whoever makes these decisions) can see a spike on the horizon and wants to be pre-emptive.  Fair enough - I'll follow whatever is required to defeat this horrible virus.

Sadly, though, I was having a friend over for a few nights and that won't happen now.  Disappointing, but a minor sacrifice in relation to what some are making.

I got into town yesterday, picked up my prescription, bought some food at M&S (plus jeggings and a top, ooops) and then came home, sorted out the guest room which is now ready for when Suzanne CAN come over again, did some tuition planning for next week which will be there in place when I can resume the sessions again and had a most enjoyable session with one of my most enthusiastic students.

During the afternoon, I made some cupboard rubble bread.  I found I had lots of fag ends of bags of different flours so I just bunged it all in together topped it up to 500g with strong white and made a plaited loaf, the idea being that Suzanne and I could cut at the plaited loaf over the weekend.
I found out about the tier change half way through proving so it wasn't a process I could stop!  :-)
It looks nice though, doesn't it?  I couldn't sleep overnight so I came down and sliced it up.  Now it's going in the freezer.

At Slimming World, weigh in was a bit of a disaster but it will be fine; I know what to do and how to do it so no problems.  It was a very good meeting and it's nice to see everyone.

So, a funny old day in a way with some disappointments but very nice too.

Today has suddenly become calm and empty.  I want to walk to Morrisons to get some yogurts as I'm nearly out but, apart from that, the day is empty.  I shall do some garden work and some more sorting shed and garage out.  I can order those shelves now and when they come next week, I can really get some order into my outhouses.  I'm getting there, I just need those shelves now.

Take care and stay as safe as possible.  xx

  1. That bread looks so delicious, I can almost smell and taste it! (If only lol). Sorry you're going into restrictions which mean your friend can't come. We're lucky here, not many cases so no real restrictions, other than common sense safety stuff of masks and handwashing and social distancing. But of course that could change! It does sometimes feel that we're never going to be free of this blasted virus though. Xx

    1. It's Suzanne I feel for. She's not in a higher tier area and has just retired. She'd planned several 'treats' to celebrate including going back to Trados, where we went two years ago, if you recall. One by one, all the celebratory things have had to be cancelled and now even this little weekend away . . . We will reschedule, of course, but it's sad for her.

  2. I'm sorry to hear you've had to cancel your friend's visit because of the Tier 2 restrictions but, as you say, you have to do everything possible to overcome this virus.

Which shelves are you planning to order? I'm allowing friends to store things in my garage prior to their move back to this area, but once it's empty again I need to sort out some additional shelving for my garage.

Not such good news about the weigh in but you were expecting a gain and have the right attitude to sort it out and return to target. Good luck with it anyway xx

    1. These are the shelves - I've ordered this one because of the corner unit and also a couple of straight ones. It should fit nicely and if I need any more, they can be bought in single units as well. I'll let you know what I think.

I was expecting a considerable gain. I'm not pleased, of course, but it was to be expected, I had a lovely week and it was more than it might have been because I sorted out a few other things like getting into winter clothes and shoes and eating a proper lunch again. I'm sure I will sort it out. :-)

  3. Shame about your friends visit - I'm just totally fed up with the arguing between Mayors, councils, government and scientists - can't imagine anyone one of them really know whats best for us all.

    1. I'm just happy to do whatever might help - I don't think anyone knows for sure but it's a pandemic, it's new, it's pretty unknown still and I'm just accepting the muddle and that it's going to stay muddled.
There's an awful lot to consider with all of this and each 'agency' has its own interest and agenda. It is a shame but we all want to keep safe, stay well, and protect others too, don't we. We're just not used to the feeling of not knowing nowadays.

  4. I'm sorry you've needed to postpone your friend's visit. Hopefully, as long as everyone does what is required, it won't be long before it can be rearranged.
    Your bread looks delicious. X

    1. I'm sure we will reschedule as soon as we can. She's a good and long standing friend.
And thank you. It tastes great, I have to say. It's just as well most of it is now in the freezer!

  5. Really sorry about your friend's visit. I hope it won't last long. Maybe - wishing here - the sooner everyone pulls together the sooner it will be over. That's why I fear for where we live. There are so many people who just don't care.

    1. I totally agree. We did discuss me going over to her but, to be honest, we both agreed that really isn't following the spirit of the law. It's not a case of how can we get round it, it's a case of how can we do the best to minimise the effects for everyone's sake. We have to pull together and think of others as much as, if not more than, ourselves.

Sorry that your friend can't come for a visit. Hopefully soon.

    God bless.

    1. Thanks, Jackie. Once the current restrictions lift again, I'm sure we will be fixing something quickly.

  7. Ooh homemade bread!
I stopped making bread, because I eat too much, but seeing your loaf makes me want bread now. 😁

    1. It does have that effect, doesn't it? I'm relieved it is sliced and frozen. I'm much more likely to have it in normal portions when it is several steps further away, both in distance and in prep!
