Sunday

Good morning, all.  Sunny Sunday morning greetings to everyone.

This made me happy this morning.

Plenty of runner beans coming along after a bit of a pause in production.  That's sorted out my Sunday dinner green veg, hasn't it?
I also picked a bowl of tomatoes and really MUST deal with the chillies - they do last on the plant for ages but a few are wrinkling up now.
(A bit like me, really)

Yesterday was pretty quiet until late afternoon when I decided to check out the other Morrisons.  It's not too far and more or less on the way to Lindsey's and it has a filling station which our local one does not have so now, if I get a patrol voucher, I can use it there.  In the past I think the nearest one was Maldon!!

I also noticed that over the road was another filling station with a little Waitrose.  Another one to check out.

However, the shop may have been bigger and had a very poor substitute to Aldi and Lidl's centre aisles, but it was no better in terms of content.  I got a few things but it's not worth the journey each week in terms of 'better'.

As I was nearly there, I went on to Sainsbury's because I needed a few of their own brand things.  I got the dishwasher powder but do they still do their Be Good To Yourself range?  I wanted a BGTY gammon joint and there were none, not one!  I found a nice, lean piece but all the same . . .
(I checked the site before continuing this - the range is still there but not the gammon joints.  Oh, drat!)

I was also a bit spendy because they had, half price, a 'need to go' small, straight sided frying pan, with a lid, non stick - perfect for someone who cooks on their own.  My little pans are old and manky and need replacing and I am hoping better quality pans will last longer.  They are Ninja, by the way
Half price was still a 'stop and think' thing but they had two left and I got them both.

I looked at their Autumn/early winter clothes and I have never seen such a drab, dreary collection in my life.  Just walking through them was miserable.  Thankfully, no temptation there.

Today is another quiet and at home day.  Gardening, maybe?  I'll see how inspired I feel.
Have a lovely day, everyone.  xx

  1. Wow the beans are really looking good. It's nice to have a good choice of supermarkets isn't it, but somehow bigger isn't always better. At the moment I'm using Tesco online, keeps me out of tempting middle aisles and racks of clothing 😂

    1. That's the only plus, for me. I like being able to select my own fruit and veg and a lot of my trolley is fresh stuff so . . .
Yes, I think one can have too much choice really. We have all sorts here but Morrisons is my main one because it is local.

The beans have been lovely and I think there's a few weeks to go yet. xx

  2. Lovely photo of your produce-so bright and cheerful on this dreich day. I’m doing housework today and not planning to go out. Our doorbell rang at 12 13 am and again at 12.43am-Norrie has changed the battery and hope that sorts out the problem. If not, I’m switching it off tonight!! Catriona

    1. I do hope so - being woken on and off like that must be the pits. How frustrating for you. x

  3. I can't believe the difference in your weather to ours today!! Your lovely sunny photo is a joy to the eyes. We had grey skies from the off and now we have really heavy rain ... and it's cold. Ah well, we do need the water I suppose to fill the rivers and reservoirs.

    1. It was a lovely day but I think I'm going to have to start watering the pots today - they look dry. A small problem to have really! x

  4. I happened to be in a big Sainsburys yesterday and thought the same of the clothes in TU - lots of burgundy, beige, brown and no styles I like - lots of long dresses that would swamp me at 5' 2". That's unusual to me as TU can be very good. (From Ruth, a lurker).

    1. Hi, Ruth, thanks for commenting.
I'm glad it wasn't just me but there were very few people browsing the racks and usually there are loads.
It was a bit miserable really because there's usually several things I like there. x

    2. The quality is usually really good too. I'll keep looking - they might top up their range over the next few weeks. Not that I need anything :). I just wanted to say I've been reading your blog for a while and it was you that gave me the idea to go on a coach trip, so thank you. I went to Wareham and Swanage the other Saturday for £36. It was a lovely day out and I'm looking forward to do a few more.

    4. Yes, I agree - for what you pay, their clothes are good quality. I'm sure the department will burst into colour when they get their Christmas range in. I'll be looking for a new Christmas jumper - most of mine are years old and getting a bit 'tired'.
That's great about the coach trips. I thoroughly enjoy them and go to all sorts of places and things i wouldn't normally go to. I learn a lot too. xx

    5. Yes, the coach trips are great. I'm still working so can't go in the week, which is a shame as there was one to Ely, St Ives and the Fens that sounded good and not somewhere I'd drive to. I'll keep looking. From Ruth

  6. I know what you mean about frying pans. I don't use mine very often but I think my baking trays could do with replacing. I'm very tempted to make a visit to Lakeland, but I'm not sure if I'd be strong enough to avoid further temptation :)

    1. I've had my baking sheets for ages - it is definitely worth paying that bit extra.
I do need to get rid of a few older and battered ones now and then just see if they need replacing - I suspect they won't and I can always use foil trays or borrow on the rare occasions I need something else. x

  7. Picked our beans when we got home, and I found out while getting them ready to blanch and freeze, that Harvey didn't get stringless. I really don't like stringing beans at all.

    God bless.

  8. If the new Morrisons is not stocked any better than your local one, it doesn't seem worth the extra journey. The frying pan sounds like a good buy though and you will use it a lot.
