Wednesday

Good morning!  At the moment it's absolutely beautiful outside, sunny and breezy, albeit cold, but the forecast isn't great.  A bit like yesterday, the afternoon looks to be bringing some rain over for a while, maybe not as torrential as yesterday but still wet!  :-)

It was very pleasant at SW group yesterday and I'm glad I went to help.  In the end I stayed the whole time before going home briefly for breakfast and then setting out for town.
It's half term and I used to have a bit of a tradition in half term of going into town and spending a bit.  I had a few things on a list, the main one being very naughty; I have run out of my 'best' perfume, appropriately named 'Joy', so went to John Lewis to get some more.  That was a bit ouch but not something I get all that often.  I also looked at the Jo Malone fragrances that people talk about but wasn't all that impressed although, to be fair, you need to live with a fragrance for a while to really tell and fragance reacts with ones skin to create an fairly individual scent.
What's your favourate?

Then I went upstairs to the haberdashery department and noticed that they have increased their range of fabrics.  I had a good nosey round and fell for two - both florally cotton and, I think, absolutely gorgeous.  I washed it early this morning and it's now out on the line so looking a bit crumpled in the photos.  You can get the idea though.

Once home again, I had lunch and then settled to some knitting when there was a knock at the door and there was my friend, L., who didn't have time to come in.  She brought me a gift, a hat she had knitted for me after I admired it a couple of weeks ago.  It's lovely, goes really well with my hair style and I was so grateful.

I love that particular stitch pattern.  When I was a child, my Mum knitted several jumpers for me and my brothers in that stitch and they were very cosy and comfortable indeed.  I've used it myself on occasion too.
I will be wearing this hat a lot while the weather is so chilly.  Many thanks, L.

For the rest of the day, I worked hard at being idle and relaxed.

Today, the diary is blank.  It should be personal training but Lindsey has changed that to Friday.  I might tidy up some cupboards and also tomorrow is the first session for one of my new students so I need to do some careful planning.  It's essential to assess at the start but I don't want to make it stressful, obviously.

I'll also dig out my box of paper patterns and see what I can make with the fabric.  I had things in mind when I bought it, of course, but will look at everything before making my final decision.

Here's to a good day for us all.  xx

  1. What a super day you have had. I like being bought perfume but even better I like buying it for myself. I’m old fashioned when it come to smells. I have tried lots but always go back to Givenchy “Amarige”. My daughter bought me Guilty Absolute by Gucci for Christmas which I like too. Like you I was ambivalent about the Jo Malone perfumes but like them a candle for room fragrance.
Your new hat is lovely; what a special friend. I can’t wait to see what you make with the fabric too.

    1. At the moment I have one attached to a light summer 'kimono' - it's not a kimono really, that's just what the pattern says. And the other for a tunic. But we will see.

  3. Yes, perfume is such an individual item, I used to love the smell of L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci and eventually managed to treat myself to a bottle. Big mistake, it went really off on my skin after a while and stank so I had to chuck it. Yes, I did have sample spritzes prior to that and never noticed before, an expensive mistake.

For years I loved Arpege by Lanvin until they discontinued it but apparently it is still available on line but I hesitate to buy it as I think it might be a fake. Nowadays I have Moments by Calvin Klein.

    Lovely hat!

    1. I liked L'Air du Temps when I was younger. It's quite floral, isn't it? A shgame it didn't work for you.
I think you are right to avoid Arpege - you just can't tell.

  4. I don't wear perfume. I have no sense of smell so I can't tell how a particular perfume reacts on me.

I like both of the fabrics and await photos of the finished articles. Your new hat looks very warm, just what you need and what a lovely surprise.

    1. There's no point if you can't get the pleasure from it, is there? After all, I am sure we are all clean and smell fresh all the time anyway!
It's a lovely hat and L. is a really lovely friend.

    1. That is unusual for a small town; how lovely.
We're lucky here with a Hobbycraft, the wonderful shops at Blake Farm, John Lewis and a wonderful haberdashery shop called Franklins, down Moulsham Street.
Oh, and a good market with two fabric stalls and a yarn stall.
      I guess we're spoilt really.

  6. The hat is gorgeous. I love both the colour and the stitch (I've never seen it before). I should really knit myself a new one as out of the two I own one is too loose and one is a little too tight.
    It's still raining here :(

  7. That is a lovely hat your friend knitted for you! I used to wear scents but have gotten away from wearing any for many years. Some scents give me headaches but not all. I used to love wearing "Love's Baby Soft" which had a sort of powdery scent. I don't know if they even make that scent anymore. Enjoyed your post.

  8. So many places I go ask that people not wear fragrances as others are allergic, so I have stopped buying or wearing perfume. I do like to use a nice soap or shampoo that doesn't trigger people's allergies.

    1. It really is, isn't it? Not difficult to make either and the basket weave pattern makes the stitch count easy to work out. I might have a go, in fact.
