Monday - welcome to September

Hi, lovely people who read my blog.  A new month starts, a new budget and the sun is shining.  That means circuits in Lindsey's garden - lovely!

First of all, note to self:  READ THE GAS METER!

OK, so, yesterday was really nice with Beth and Alex here for Sunday lunch.  We had a good old natter about all sorts of things and I guess that will continue on Tuesday as Beth is here for lunch.
Apart from that, I did a load of washing but forgot to peg it out so it's currently going through a quick cycle again and I will get it on the line before circuits.
And I looked at the end of month finances but didn't very much about it:  I have overspent, what with car and Beth's birthday/Christmas present but there's no point juggling money around because an amount will be landing to cover the boiler work and that might also cover the deficit.  The only thing I did, just paper based, was move the remining overspend to this month's Excel sheet which makes it look as if I have little left (all the monthly expenses are taken out right from the start, whether they are due on the 1st or the 31st, but it will all work out fine eventually.

I took a few photos or remaining tomatoes.  There's still quite a lot to ripen and we will see how many actually do and how many have to be picked and ripened indoors.  The plants are looking very tatty now, as always happens.  The runner beans still seem good to go but, with more dark and less daylight hours, they will also slow down in a few weeks.  Tis the same every year and every year it feels sad.

Today, apart from Circuits, is housework day, of course, so dusting, sweeping and laundry are all on the list, plus some cooking (B & A want another loaf).  Nothing too hairy, nothing too exhausting.
Just how I like it.

And I have realised that three weeks today I will be off for a Monday to Friday break at Center Parcs.  Very exciting!

Well, better go.  I have Circuits to dress for, clothes to peg out and a loaf to start.  Very nice too.
Have a great day, everyone.  See you tomorrow and stay safe!  xx

  1. I have changed my perennial calendar this morning and it has an autumnal drawing on it. It’s still warm here but we had torrential rain last night which has caused some damage around Scotland. All laundry done and put away yesterday so some house cleaning is in order this morning. Catriona

    1. Oh, dear - that does not sounds very good at all. Rain can be much needed but devastating at the same time. I hope the house cleaning went well. x

Three weeks will pass very quickly and then you will be off to Center Parcs. 😊

  3. You obviously have very different weather form us today, it's cold, drizzly and very grey here today, my washing is in the machine waiting for 1pm when we have one hour of free electricity, there was no point in doing it any earlier a it can't go on the line! I just have to remember to press the button to start it off. That's my trick, thinking it's washing away, when in reality it's just sat there waiting. When I go to get it out it's still dry and dirty. Alan like you, forgets to empty the thing after the washing is done.

It's been a good year for tomatoes hasn't it, and lots of other things for you too.

    1. We had some rain too but showers between sunny periods rather than continuous.
I do both although I'm better starting the washing machine than the dishwasher!
Yes, the tomatoes have been great and I'm hoping for more to come still. Fingers are crossed for that. xx

  4. The tomatoes, still looking good, but I agree it's tinged with sadness as the year slowly turns. Ah well, I keep telling myself, as my dear old Mum would have done: To everything there is a season x

  5. Cooler nights here make it longer for the sunshine to heat up the air. No stifling humidity which is a blessing. Tomatoes--- don't know if you have tried this. Put your unripen tomatoes in a brown paper bag along with an apple, store in a cool place. Check every couple of days. I have done this for several years and had ripe tomatoes for at least another month, Need to check them as some do start to rot.

    1. I find they tend to ripen on a tray but I will have a go at the paper bag one - thanks very much.
There's always green tomato chutney, of course! xx

    1. Oh, they really are. You'd have to pay an awful lot to get anything like that flavour from the shops. Such deliciousness! xx

  7. Your tomatoes look great. Pretty sure most will vine ripen and even the ones that need to ripen indoors still taste better than those in the store.

    God bless.
