13-07-25

Hi, everyone.  Welcome to Sunday - a  rather dull and, thankfully, cooler and fresher Sunday too.  The sun is supposed to break through at some point but they think it will be cooler round here.  Not cool, just cooler!

I slept better though, even after naps on and off through the day.  Phew.

As I suspected, maybe I did cut the cucumber a bit too soon so it was a little bitter, but it was OK chopped, added to chopped tomatoes (also from the garden, yay) with chopped preserved lemon, a tiny pinch of sweetener and some apple cider vinegar.
I think I will peel and slice the rest and add some pickling stuff that I have just knocked together - apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, bit of salt, bay leaf, fennel seeds, black peppercorns and a bit of preserved lemon - that mix being decided by what I am able to lay my hands on.
Goodness knows how it will turn out but I just want a quick something to try with a quick turn around!
Oddly enough, this morning it isn't bitter at all anyway so there you go!  I've done it anyway (since writing the above) and will have a taste for lunch.

Today is the second day of an easy weekend so, obviously, I have started off a sourdough loaf and will start another one later on - one for Lindsey and one for Beth.

Apart from that, I have nothing planned apart from finishing off the ironing so I will see where the day takes me!  :-)
Bye - see you tomorrow!   xx

    1. I did - and it was really tasty! I've eaten the lot (not that it was much) and I'm keeping the pickling liquid for another go. xx

  4. Looks really lovely. I can't wait for things to cool down here a bit. The heat really drains me.

    1. It is very draining, I agree. Siestas are definitely the way to go when it is like that. If we can, of course. xx
