Wednesday

Good morning, all.  It was a damp old night but it seems to be brightening up a bit at the moment.  A bit chilly but nothing to turn the heating up for.

I managed to get a few things done yesterday.  Firstly, Groove.  Chris and I had agreed to drive down as neither of us has been 2100% but, in fact, it was wet so we would have taken a car anyway.  It was good, Groove was, although I did find some things difficult to do full pelt so I just did what I could.  There were a number of people absent, mostly due to illness.  It's that time of year.

I am glad to announce that I got housework done.  Yay!  Upstairs is a bit of a mess (but no-one else sees that) and the kitchen floor needs a wash but I was glad to get the rest done.

I had a play with the Mystical Lanterns pattern.  It's not quite right, I'm not sure of the join as you go and it definitely needs blocking/steaming.  I'm not sure I like it all that much but that might just be because it looks so uneven and shapeless.
I will leave it for a while and see how I feel about it in a few weeks.

In the meanwhile, I am getting on with the Sophie scarf (nearly finished) and the Joseph's coat quilt.  I must get the border and joining yarn ordered.

Talking of ordering, you may just possibly remember that a couple of months ago I bought a REALLY cheap stick vacuum (is that what they are called?) from Temu just to see if I liked the 'action' - they way they moved - as I've never used one.
When I say cheap, I mean around £30 so I knew it was a means to an end.
I do like it, my stairs have never been so clean, I'm choosing to use it over my heavy Miele vacuum, so I have ordered a better one, a middle-of-the-road priced one that looks pretty good for what you get.  I was rather astounded at how much some were.  I'm not that devoted to keeping my carpets clean, I just want something that does the job for minimal effort.
I will keep the cheapo one in the garden room.

(If I ever win that million from Ernie, I will get a robot sweeper.  Maybe several, one for each carpeted room!)

Today is another fairly gentle day.  I have ironing, a kitchen floor to wash, the usual stuff with the loo and bathroom and, in the afternoon, personal training.  It won't be long now before I come back from PT in the dark so I can try the anti-glare clip-ons I bought a while ago.  I hope they work - I hate the nighttime glare, especially when the roads are wet.

Time to love you and leave you.  Have a good day and I'll see you tomorrow.  Bye!

  1. Like you, I’m not really taken with the lantern pattern. Our schools are on holiday this week and so far it’s been dry. IKEA has just delivered some build your own bedroom furniture so I guess the Shedman will be busy in his workshop today! Our daughter is coming to see us today and bringing lunch-yeah! I have had a Dyson, Shark and now Vax stick cleaner-I didn't like the Shark, really liked the Dyson but my principles about the business wouldn’t let me buy another one, and the good thing about the Vax is it came in a special promotion with two removable batteries. Happy vacuuming! Catriona

    1. I'm not sure why I don't take to it. It's clever in a very simple way but . . .
Good luck with the DIY - I hope it is all going well and also that you had a lovely time with your daughter.

I had Dysons, in the earlier days, the original cyclonic whatever it was called. Very good indeed but didn't last nearly as the price said it should. xx

  2. I tried my sister stick cleaner when we stayed there once - think it might have been a Dyson - but didn't really get on with it, but it might have been set incorrectly for the carpet but worked fine on the porcelain floor tiles. I am quite happy for the moment with my small ordinary lightweight Dyson ( though as the person above here I have not heard good things about the Dyson business practises) and I like the flexibility of the flex hose for getting into places and hoovering the mattress and linen headboard, although maybe you can do all these things with a stick one?
    Do Robots clean the stairs?

    1. Sadly, they don't. Stairs are a pain, aren't they?
I really got on well with the cheapo Temu on so fingers are crossed. xx

  3. This is going to sound odd but do you think the lantern pattern would be better edged in black? Apologies if I'm poking my nose in.......
We've got an ancient stick dyson that we still use when we want to vacuum quickly, you can't beat them for ease of use can you?

    1. Not at all, Alison - very good point. I was just using scraps but yes, blight might work a lot better. Thanks.
They are just grab and go, these rechargeable sticks. I'm hoping . . .

  4. I use a GTech K9 rechargeable 'hoover' and wouldn't be without it, no cords to trip over and it recharges in a couple of hours. I get two full 'hoovers' of the lodge on one charge. I bought the handheld version at the same time which is great for awkward edges and skirting boards etc, Alan uses his handheld one on the stairs.

Now that we don't have the dogs I would LOVE a robot vacuum, but I don't think it would be able to cope with all my rugs and the tiled floor in between them.

    1. I think battery time is important and I think it is fair to say there's no way I would need more than an hour's worth at a time. :-) xx

  5. Regular upright vacuum in use here, but a stick vacuum could be perfect to do the steps from the basement .

    God bless.

    1. Stairs are definitely a thing, aren't they? I'm hoping mine will stay a lot cleaner now - well, when it's delivered.
      I'd love a basement. xx
