I didn't do very much at all yesterday. I pottered in the kitchen making first a 'rich tomato sauce' and then, because I still had tomatoes, a batch of curry sauce, both in Thermione and both a combination of canned toms, passata (already open so needed using) and garden tomatoes - and they were both delicious! The freezer is looking fuller again!
Carole, using the deflated leaven didn't seem to harm the bread at all. As you can see, it baked beautifully and had a great oven rise on it.
If I were very fussy, I would say maybe the crumb is not open enough for perfect sourdough, but it's not at all dense and, being a half and half, it is going to be closer crumbed anyway
Interesting and thanks for the question. Every time I bake, I learn something new.
I received some very sad news via email. After several years of serving the community faithfully, Jan and Ray are going to stop organising these coach trips for health reasons. Ray has been very unwell and has been told to take things a lot easier before it kills him - it's as serious as that.
OK, so I am very sorry for myself and all the other punters, but I'm glad they have taken the medical warnings seriously and are taking proper action. We can only be very grateful for what they have given us all in terms of treats and experiences.
I don't know which of the many trips I have booked for over the next year will now take place - I will just have to wait and see. I suppose there's a chance someone will step up and take over the organising but I wouldn't want to take it on, not at my age - and Ray and Jan are both in their seventies. They have been absolute stars but all good things must end at some point and they have done much more than their bit.
Today is another easier day (as will be Monday and Tuesday). I'm feeling loads better, just a bit washed out really. I have no definite plans, I'll just see where the day leads me.
Have a lovely Sunday, everyone. xx
It's a shame about your coach trip organisers. Perhaps there are others 'out there' that you don't yet know about.
ReplyDeleteWell, there's always Lodges - the commercial one. It'll cost a bit more and be less convenient but there will be trips. I just hope Ray will be OK. xx
DeleteSorry to hear about Ray.
ReplyDeleteI never get tired of seeing your gorgeous bread

It's very worrying really and I really do hope he will be OK as the stress is lifted. xx
DeleteI am sorry about your coach trip organisers, health is the most important thing. I hope someone takes over the organising. We used to have great coach trips arranged by a couple for our local Museum. They were very popular and went to some fantastic places. The couple had to give up because of health, both in their late seventies. They hoped someone would take the job over but sadly no one did. Unfortunately the Museum volunteers are all "oldies" and we all have good reasons, health or otherwise not to take on something which takes a lot of administration etc. We do miss the trips. Your bread looks magnificent by the way. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely it is, Sue. Perhaps someone will and perhaps not. Not everyone has their good heart and wish to serve their community. We will see. xx
DeleteThe bread looks wonderful
ReplyDeleteHopefully someone will be found to take over.
Someone or someones - to be honest, it is more a job for committee - I have no idea how Ray and Jan have managed it over the past six months or so. xx
DeleteThe bread looks yummy. I hope someone is found to take over the coach trips.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks, Jackie. Maybe people will step forward - I won't be though. :-)
DeleteWe will see. xx
