We're forecast for a bit of rain here but no winds worth the name.
Yesterday was a quiet day.
This one was made using my usual yeasted recipe of wholemeal, whole meal spelt, wholemeal rye and a bit of white flours with a generous dollop of mixed seeds.
It makes a lovely loaf and, as you can see, I have started treating my yeast loaves like sourdoughs for the final proof, in a banneton, turned put, scored and baked (as long as the dough feels 'firm' enough which this one did).

However, before you say 'not another loaf', let me add that it was for Beth and Alex.
Another however - I am in the middle of yet another sourdough for me that I've gone a bit ad hoc with, mixing my wholemeal flours, adding seeds and doing the reverse, proofing (is that right?) it in a loaf tin because I want that loaf shape - so much easier for toasties, sandwiches, etc.
Also, with the mix of flours, it probably wouldn't hold up all that well.
I'll let you know!

Anyway - I look it over to Beth with a bag of tomatoes and we had a good chat over coffee which was nice. She, like me, is feeling the urge to get sewing. We didn't consult, it is just how it has worked out really.
Another nice thing - I had my first portion of runner beans with my Sunday lunch yesterday; that's them at the bottom. Not loads but enough and there's a lot of babies now so I need to start picking to freeze as and when.
Today, the car is in for its MOT and a service. I'm waiting for it to be picked up as I type and, after pondering finances, have moved some money across from savings. There's nothing major that needs to be done as routine but in an older car you never know, do you? I'm starting to ponder replacements at some point and maybe I ought to go in and start a conversation . . .
I want to cut out a pattern but can I find my pins anywhere? So frustrating. I will go and have another hunt later. Wish me luck.
Have a good Monday, everyone. Stay safe and well and see you tomorrow. xx

Looking forward to seeing what you make. I use large washers as weights instead of pins when cutting out, and often use clips rather than pins when sewing. I’m needing to get started to a baby mat soon as it’s only four weeks now and I haven’t really started yet. I have faffed a lot with colour combinations but don’t think that really counts as actually starting! We have wind, rain and brilliant sunshine this morning. Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt's just a practise thing using some cheap white polyester I found in a cupboard. A size check plus getting a bit of confidence back. I want to start but am a bit anxious - which is daft really.
DeleteI think working out colour combinations is definitely part of the whole process, I truly do. Good luck with it.
It's been quite windy here - nothing bad just more than expected. xx
Yes another loaf ... but what another gorgeous loaf, well worth photographing. You seem to be consistently turning out really good bread now. Isn't it 'prove' and 'proving' with bread dough ... but you've got me doubting myself now, easily done!! Maybe both could be used?
ReplyDeleteI don't know - maybe it could be both. It's like leaven/levain - perhaps it is a cross Alantic thing, like crochet stitch names.
DeleteAnd thank you, that's so kind. xx
Lovely bread. At our new place a kind neighbour has a glut of runner beans and is passing lots our way - happy days

Oh, how lovely. They're further along the road than mine are - but I give ine a week and they should be bursting at the seams. :-) xx
DeleteThat loaf looks amazing! It should feature on the pages of a recipe book.
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying a lovely catch-up, after being unintentionally offline for the last couple of weeks. I enjoyed reading all about your trip to Brighton. And your photographs and descriptions of Rye were very informative. I especially love the castle :)
I love that you and Alex are still cooking together. And thank you for the pizza idea - it looks delicious BTW! I'm hoping toget Lily making one herself, very soon.
It is a shame, albeit completely understandable, that your coach trip organisers have decided to call it a day. Fingers crossed someone else will step-up, as they appear to be very popular. Xx
It's things like pizza that catch their interest, I think. Modern, popular, fast food that can be nutritious when made at home.
DeleteWhat a pain to have been offline. I hope it is all proper sorted now.
Brighton and Rye were both really good in very different ways. I'm glad I went.
And what a lovely thing to say, thank you. It did rise beautifully and Beth was pleased. xx
Our car also went for its MOT this morning! I love the look of that loaf! Have a good week! Sal
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sal. I hope Beth liked it . . . :-)
DeleteWas the MOT OK? xx
You make the most lovely loaves. It was cloudy and humid here all day. The clothes were not drying on the lines so I brought them in and hung them up in the basement. Now the sun is shining. I hope you have found your pins by now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks, Jackie. Re the pins, see the next post!
DeleteI'm glad you got the washing dried one way or another. xx
