Saturday - a whinge and an apology

Good morning, everyone.  Saturday starts a bit dam and gloomy round here and, for me, quite late which leads me on to the whinge.  Yup, the virus hadn't gone, it had just decided to have a few days off.  So yesterday was aches, pains, a rather sort throat and a bit of a cough.  Actually, whinge is too strong a word - it wasn't THAT bad, just not very nice, that's all.  I cancelled SW - going, that is - and felt really bad because other social team people couldn't come either.  Thankfully, Tracey was there so Heidi could do the weighing, I think.  And I cancelled Alex, only to be reminded that he had cancelled anyway.  It was in my diary, I just had got it firmly fixed in my head that he was coming.

I washed some fabric that had arrived - my mum taught me to do that so I could see how much ironing it needed  (which would determine the pattern used) and, if it was going to shrink first wash, it would get that over and done with.

By the way - it may have taken a while to arrive, that fabric, but one of you recommended Pound Fabrics and I'm impressed with the range and the prices - thank you very much.

Come the evening, I was very weary so went to bed, asleep by nine and woke at around seven thirty this morning - I must have needed it; I can't remember when I last slept for so long!
The throat is still a bit sore but not much and I feel more energetic.  Luckily, I have an empty weekend so I am going to be sensible and only do what I want to do.  That includes bread making and playing about with fabric.
Whinge over!

The apology is for yesterday's silence.  For a small place, Rye has plenty to write about and I will get that posted today as well as this.  I just couldn't get motivated yesterday although I did get the photos cropped, etc.  Despite the rain, it was a lovely trip and I really enjoyed it.

In exciting news, I picked the first two runner beans and here's the evidence!
OK, semi-sort of exciting in an understated way!

There's not enough for a portion so I will be adding them to the curry I plan to make for dinner tonight.

It will be like the tomatoes - for a while I have been picking and eating; then, suddenly, I have two bowlfuls to use so Thermione will be moving into action with a rich tomato sauce today - great for pizza/pasta sauce.

So today is going to be a gentle day.  I started a leaven yesterday but didn't have the energy to get the loaf started so I'm having a go today using a rather deflated leaven - I have the time so it doesn't matter if the rise is slow.
My bedroom is a tip but let's see how I feel.  I may very well give it a quick dust and sweep to deal with the worst.  That's the trouble about having the window on tilt - bits and bobs from the trees around blow in.

I gather Scotland and northern England (and, presumably N Ireland) are forecast to get some rough weather over the weekend.  Fingers crossed it won't be too rough or too long lasting.

Right - well, the dough needs its first 'slap and fold' so better get going, hadn't I?  It is nearly quarter to nine and I'm still only on my first coffee - that will never do!  :-)
Have a great Saturday, everyone.  See you tomorrow!  xx

  1. Oh dear, poor you, hope your lurgy is going to b***** off pdq! Hope other beans will follow soon too.
I've been googling for the History of Scotland tapestry, and figured it's in Galashiels, about an hour southeast from Edinburgh. Appears to be massive and well worth a visit.
Take it easy and get well soon. xx

    1. Just One Of Those Things, isn't it? I have a free weekend, the car is in for a service on Monday to that keeps me at home and Tuesday looks free. Plenty of time to recoup.
Yes, I saw that about the tapestry. Sadly, probably not possible when I am up in Edinburgh but not to worry. I have my eye on the Bayeux one in London . . .

    1. I suppose I should have re-fed but I though 'blow it, it's sourdough yeast, it's hard to kill, it'll just take longer, that's all' and used it starting around eight this morning. At time of typing, just after 12:15, it is in the banneton for its final proof. It's a lovely dough, nice and active.
Interesting, isn't it? Hopefully the resulting bread will be great and I am proofing it in the fridge to give it time. I'll probably bake either this evening or tomorrow morning. I'll see how it behaves . . .
A case of 'watch this space' I guess. xx
