Good morning, everyone. The weekend has landed and I have two totally empty days in the diary which feels really nice. I've already started a yeasted loaf and I'm sure I will fill the time nicely!
Have any of you heard of Dorset buttons?
This is what they are - rings with yarn wrapped around, basically. Don't they look fab?

I think you can guess what's in my mind!! There's YouTube videos (which I haven't yet watched) and I am intrigued and attracted to them.
Do any of my readers make these?
OK, back to earth again and yesterday was a really nice day. I did my bit at Slimming World, managed a fairly small and healthy shop at Morrisons and then chilled.
I finished another WIP and have just one more to finish now. I'm hoping I can get that done today and then I can wrap what I have made and cross them off the Christmas list!
As mentioned, I've started a yeasted loaf. They are taking noticeably longer to rise now that it is cooler but that's OK - I have all day, after all, and it won't take that long.
Later on, as long as the weather stays fine, I want to attack the garden. It's a real mess.
And this evening it is Strictly, of course. I have one 'favourite' who I am pretty sure won't make the final but apart from that, I'm uncommitted.
Right, well, second coffee is calling so off I go - have a lovely day and stay warm. xx

You’ll not be surprised to know I have made Dorset buttons-I bought a kit when we were on holiday in Dorset! There are lots of online tutorials about how to make them-I used mine for decoration on gift cards when I had finished them. Happy weekend. Catriona
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all - I may pick your brains at some point and, yes, there's info out there. I love the idea of using them to decorate cards. xx
DeleteThey are very pretty, but no, I have never made one. A second cup of coffee sounds like a very good idea for you ... I may go and have a third!! :-)
ReplyDeleteOne loaf, one breakfast and and batch of sushi down, I am on my fourth. :-) Can't beat a good mug of coffee, can you?
DeleteThey are pretty, I think, and interesting. xx
Coffee is definitely one of life's simple pleasures isn't it......
ReplyDeleteI've seen Dorset Buttons but never made one, interesting to see yours when you've finished.
I have started making the top down, in the round, seamless jumper, oh my goodness, I got in a muddle with the instructions for the raglan increases 😆 Anyhoo, after taking more than one deep breath and using a couple of choice words it suddenly clicked, so this afternoon I'll be happily knitting.

Oh, no!! Sometimes those few little choice words can make a big difference. :-) I'm glad you finally clicked and can go ahead.
DeleteI doubt I'll be starting anything new this side of Christmas but - well, we will see. xx
One of the members in the quilting guild I belong to has made Dorset buttons. She gave a demonstration as to how to make them at one of our meetings, however, it is not something I would make. They do look lovely, look forward to see yours.
ReplyDeleteI would think it is more than a little bit fiddly. I do fancy having a go and - well, we will see. xx
DeleteI had never heard of Dorset buttons before. They are very pretty and I will have a look at a few YouTube videos but, I don't think I shall be trying any this side of Christmas. Maybe in the New Year. Thank you for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI have done some tidying in the garden since we got back but as rain is due this week the rest might have to wait. Happy loaf baking this week x
Me too - but aren't they lovely? I'm looking forward to having a go.
DeleteAnd thanks for the loaf-luck. I do love my bread making. xx
I have never made any of those, but they are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They are, aren't they? I've seen them about but not known what they are. I love these 'little' crafts that are easily resourced. xx
DeleteThose are really lovely. Hope you enjoy your two days!
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous, aren't they, and just a bit different. xx
DeleteA few years ago I bought wool for a jacket with lots of cables etc and just couldn't find what I wanted in buttons so.......I bought nylon and brass rings the right size and made Dorset Buttons using the same wool. I chose to use the brass rings for this jacket because of the weight. I still have and wear the jacket and the buttons have stayed together and have washed fine and look just as good now as they did when I made them. So easy and very versatile and a satisfying and useful hobby if you knit, besides which, have you seen the price of some buttons?! Elaine in Portsmouth
ReplyDeleteHi, Elaine, and thanks very much - that's so encouraging. And yes - they are a shocking price, even the most basic ones. xx
