Morning, everyone!  How are you today?
Yesterday was another fairly busy day, starting with the weekly food shop early morning (the shops open at eight) .  I do like to go early, especially if I'm driving over to the Clock Tower precinct; it gets quite busy later on, especially at this time of year.

Anyway, I went to M&S and then to Aldi and it was a bit ouchy because I was buying for two family things as well as next week.  Everything seems to have gone up again.  For example, I do like the M&S West Country mature cheddar and when I started using M&S for veg (after lockdown, I am sure), it was about a fiver for a big block - expensive but worth it as a sometimes purchase.  On Tuesday, it was £7!!  And I needed two because I had run out of grated cheddar in the freezer.  Well - I say 'need' . . .

Then I popped into Dunelm and managed to get a nice candle (I'm a sucker for candles) and some books for Chris' grandson for Christmas.  I also found a replacement bag.  You may remember that I bought myself a bag for coach trips, one that stays on the coach and contains things that I might need but don't want to carry about and it has been very handy.  Well, on Tuesday, I was zipping it up on the way home and the zip came right off the end.  Very annoying.  I tried to get the end back on but it started undoing and I just couldn't get it back on so . . . new bag.  I found one that looks rather better made (I checked those zips) so everything has now been transferred over.  It's heavier but that doesn't matter and it was a bit more expensive but I'm hoping it will last longer.

And that was the day's excitement apart from personal training and the housework I had to do.

Today is a stay at home, baking sort of day.  I'm over to Chris at 9:30 for our weekly gossip and then it's home, James, to get some things prepared for the weekend.  I'm doing a lemon cheesecake for tomorrow night so I want to make that, and I found a recipe for oats and seeds crackers which I want to make for Saturday because it's basically a cheese and fruit buffet (with leftover cheesecake, fingers crossed).
I have some dried soup mix in the slow cooker, having soaked it overnight, and that will end up as a chicken and veg soup for lunch.
And I have started another knitting project, just a short one, knitting a Christmas gnome for Beth and Alex in the colour of their new Christmas decor; this is very much an impulse but it would be nice to give it to them on Saturday so whenever I sit down, the knitting needles are clickety clicking!

I should sleep well tonight, don't you think?  :-)
Have a great day, everyone.  xx

  1. Prices go up as soon as you blink, it seems. You sound ready for your guests.

    1. They do - it's scary really.
I will be ready, definitely. At the moment the kitchen is a right muddle of stuff being made and I have to go to Morrisons because I am short of stuff! xx

  2. Haircut at 9am this morning and now home to heat up and get on with some housework tasks. Also to mend a jacket that DH has torn the pocket right out of the bottom. It’s going to be fiddly but too good a jacket to dispose of. Catriona

    1. Fiddly but not too difficult, I hope. I agree, it would be not great to dispose of a good jacket for that reason.
Did the haircut go well? xx

  3. It's nice to get out and about nice and early isn't it, easier parking, no crowds and all the shop staff still in a good mood. I had such a peaceful trip to Sainsbury's the other day for the Foodbank shopping.

    1. Very much easier and quicker too, especially if it can be timed between the rush hour and the school run. By the time you're done, the school run it practically over. xx

  4. Food prices are rising even more now because of Christmas, grrr. And I've noticed that some 'normal' things are disappearing off the shelves (put back in the stockroom) to make way for Christmas - cynically overpriced - 'must haves'. I much prefer to go shopping first thing, when it's so much quieter. xx

    1. Yes - all those 'must haves' that cost a fortune and are all fats, carbs and toot! xx

  5. Like you, I really enjoy shopping early. Lately though it seems like others have decided that the earliest shopping possible is the way to go. I lost the zipper on my purse and so am using one I made. While not perfect it does the task.

    God bless.

    1. Zips do seem to be a weak point. It's that built in obsolescence, isn't it. Good for you to make a replacement. xx

  6. Cheese is my weakness. I will admit to paying a little more for a good English cheese rather than the weaker American ones lol

    1. We have so many cheeses generally available and even more 'fussy' ones at the moment, in 'selections' that cost an arm and a leg. If I want a choice, I get small amounts from the deli counter as much as possible. Yes, we're lucky to have so much choice.
Why are American cheeses so 'weak', I wonder? xx
