Wednesday

Good morning, everyone.

Fingers crossed the first mini cucumber will be ready to cut by Saturday morning!  It must be about four inches long and seems to be almost doubling is size every day.

Another nice day yesterday.  The SW meeting was fun, as always.  I then went to Morrisons - no queues and no shortages, they even had flour!  After lunch (which I have around two) I popped to the allotment to water and all was well there apart from one corn plant which had been knocked sideways and nearly snapped across.  Beth reckons it was a resident badger!

I had a treat in the mail.  Sue, from My Quiet Life in Suffolk , had a box of surprises and she was giving away some of the items she found in it.  I received a . . .

. . . which I am sure I will find very useful when I get back to quilting again.  Thank you very much, Sue, what a lovely thing to do.

In the evening I got all the ironing done while catching up on some recordings of Back in Time for the Weekend.

Just a nice, normal, homey day, in fact.

Today is pretty much more of the same.  Jeff comes at about eight to weed between the slabs and generally give the front and back a good tidy up.
Weather permitting, Chris is coming over at half ten for coffee and a chat but if it isn't great, we'll have it online instead.  She and partner went to Hyde Hall yesterday so I'm looking forward to hearing about it.
No personal training - we've decided to give the shoulder a proper rest so that's it until next Wednesday.  I might walk out into the country or I might drive across town to Galleywood Common for a stroll around.  I'll see what I fancy doing when the time comes.

So that's my day.  What does yours look like? xx

    1. Fingers crossed, Diane, thanks. Most of the time it's just 'there' grumbling away, but I don;t want to make it any worse. xx

  2. My parents used to grow and pickling these, I still remember the mold being scraped off the top of the jars!! They still tasted good and we all survived!

I'm picking up a friend shortly and drive to Seaford to look at the kittiwakes colony breeding on the cliffs. We might even have a little walk and picnic, if the rain stays away. I don't think I'll be driving with the windows open but she'll be gloved and masked! Hopefully there won't be too many people and they'll all be queueing at the shops!

    1. That does sound nice. Have a wonderful time and I'm sure gloves and mask will be fine - after all, it is OK for buses and trains (they say!)

  3. My knee and your shoulder - seem to think we must be getting old!
Have a good day - thunderstorms about today and tomorrow according to the forecast so hope the "torrential" rain doesn't damage gardens

    1. We must be, Sue!!!
A really good and prolonged soaking would be great, wouldn't it. The sky has lost its clear blue look and there's a few clouds but it's still sunny.

    2. I've got knee and shoulder pain so can I join your gang please?

We had the thunderstorm yesterday but more is promised for this afternoon. Hope the rain holds off so you can enjoy your walk if you decide to go out.

  4. I have never tried cucumbers but would no doubt need a greenhouse up here in the North, my outdoor tomatoes struggle a bit. That quilting tool looks useful - I need to get more fabric for my quilt but I am not venturing into town just yet. Have a good day - overcast here. x

    1. Perhaps. I know dad used to grow them in his greenhouse, and tomatoes too but not for quite a while now, it's not been necessary. The cucumber vines used to take over one side of the space totally, and the roof too.

  5. Those cucumbers are really looking good! I have had the flowers bloom but no cucumbers as yet. Hopefully soon! Tell me Joy do you or any of your readers have afternoon tea still or is that a bygone thing? I see that you have lunch at two so wondered if tea was still in the picture?

    1. I'm sure some have tea and cake at around four but I don't. Lunch is later than normal because of the restricted eating strategy. Generally speaking, a proper afternoon tea is something that some restaurants provide and you have to book it the day before.

    1. That's more or less what I say or think every time I go out and look at it! My garden is a source of ongoing delight! Lovely.

  7. Fresh cucumbers are so nice. I managed them one year before the deer discovered our garden and ate everything in sight lol.

What a lovely treat to get in the post! It's nice to know someone is thinking of you.

    1. My brother lives in the States and he's pretty much given up because of the wildlife that destroys everything. Would a polytunnel help? It's a shame but we're not islands, we live in a natural world.
(don't quote me on that when I spray the aphids though) :-)
