Sunday

Morning, everyone.  Just to be different, the forecast for today is strong wind and rain.  Yippidy doo!  In fact, from what I can see, it already is and I'm so glad I got the things for breakfast out of the freezer (kept in the shed) last night!

Well, Dr Clough was very happy with the way things are healing up, thankfully.  He wants to see me in eight weeks, just for another check.  I think, maybe, that's when he will judge the rate of healing and decide when the implants can be put in.  Let's hope so anyway.

I took the paper pattern sheets out and got them all cut out and ironed nice and flat but I think I might grab some cheap fabric from the deep, dark depths of a cupboard and knock one up first, just to see.  It's a very, very long time since I did any dress making and I don't want to waste the lovely (comparatively expensive) fabric.

It's a very easy pattern.  No facings, Diane, just binding to finish the neck and sides and hems for the bottom and the sleeves.  As it is kimono style, there's no sleeves to set in either, so it's actually a very good pattern to start with.  It would be quite easy to make some narrow facings if the binding looks a bit clunky so a practise run would be a good thing from more than one angle.

Today looks very much like being an indoors day again so I'll dig out that fabric and make a start, I think.  Here's hoping it all works OK.  I'm surprised how nervous I feel about it.  Time was when I'd knock up a couple of skirts and a little pair of shorts for Dave and still have time for afternoon coffee with my friend!  It's more than time I got back into the swing of it.

Have a good day, everyone, and stay safe, warm and dry in this nasty weather, especially if you live further north where, I gather, there's weather warnings in place for ice and snow.
xx

  1. I like kimono style tops and dresses very much. I have a cotton kimono dressing gown for summer which I am very fond of but is looking a bit tired. It would probably be easy enough to take the pattern from it and make another but I am not sure if it would be much cheaper than buying one. Fabric is so expensive so you are wise to run up the patten in a cheaper fabric first. The wind is really battering the trees here this morning.

    1. It used to be much cheaper to make your own than buy but it's completely the opposite now. Ditto with knitted things too. Sometimes the market has some good stuff bit the quality varies.

  2. I think you are very sensible to have a dry run before embarking on expensive fabric it sounds like an easy enough pattern do you have to make your own bindings?

    1. Yes, and it's bias so would take a lot of fabric so I will probably look for some cream bias binding in the shop, something that matches the background. I have a wee gadget that makes bias bindng (and saeam binding) from strips of cloth but I may not use that. It depends.

  3. It's such a talent if you can make your own clothes - I've not done any sewing since school - hated it (my own fault, being too ambitious, opting to make a pair of trousers with a zip, instead of the simple t-shirts or A-line elasticated waist skirts the other girls chose. It was a disaster!). There are some lovely patterned fabrics about. Have fun. xx

  4. Glad to hear that the dental work is healing nicely. Did he say anything about the wobbly denture?

Hope the dressmaking attempt goes according to plan. I'm sure it'll all come back to you once you start.

    1. He gave me a sample of fixative to try but I mustn't use if for another fortnight so I'll just have to put up with it in the meanwhile. :-)

  5. We had a little bit of snow on Saturday, but today was sunny and gorgeous in California. Hope the sewing goes well. I think your confidence will return with practice and patience. I am the same way with knitting.

    1. It makes a huge difference, doesn't it?: I'm thinking of investing in a daylight bulb sort of lamp which should help. The trouble is, they are not cheap.
