Friday

Good morning, everyone.   It seems to have turned quite cold here, so cold that I have turned the heating on.  In May!

Yesterday was a really busy day.  I did the school visit (fun again), did a bit of shopping, picked up some shoes and my prescription before coming home for lunch and planning.  Tuition was, as always, interesting.  Then I went to vote and to be weighed (same place, different rooms) and that was when my world crashed.  Oh, OK, so I'm being overly dramatic, but I've gained more weight and this time I truly wasn't expecting it, I was expecting to lose.  So a bit of a shock really, made all the worse because I have gone into the next stone up!  Oh, blimey!!!

After that, in no positive frame of mind, I went off to pottery.  A new group to me but they all seem very pleasant.  The glaze I needed hadn't come so I couldn't do that, but I did neaten up another leaf for my set of coasters ready for firing and then thought about what I want to make next.  I think it will be a leaf bowl - a bowl made from leaf shapes, moulded in a plaster shape.  I didn't have the leaf shape ready so had a practise with an old template and I think it will work OK.  Ideally, I would go out for a walk and select some real leaves to press print but it's the wrong time of year for that!  My practice attempt ended up back in the bag again but I do think I know where I'm going with it.  I also picked up three pendants that I glazed last term - I'd take a photo but I left the pottery bag in the car and I'm not dressed yet so I will edit this later on.

The new bathroom is on schedule so Matt will be starting on Tuesday.  I have no idea when/how I will have washing facilities so may HAVE to go swimming so I can have a shower afterwards.  Not such a bad thing as it will get me back into the way of it, I'm hoping.

I also heard from the upholsterers who has my dining chairs for repair.  They're coming back on Tuesday too.

I was still quite stressed in my mind and didn't sleep all that well so today will be a bit of a dozy day, I suspect.
I need to sort out the clutter so my lovely cleaner can do her work properly and I need to pack as I'm up to Dad's this weekend.  We're out to the Millstream this evening - lousy timing but can't be helped.  I will just have to be very strict with myself for the rest of the week until next Wednesday's weigh in, that's all.

And I MUST cheer up!  :-)
Have a great day!  xx

  1. Try to think of the gain as just a blip. You do so well, Joy, you'll be back on track in no time at all. I suspect the scales were just 'out' because you were in a different room.
I'm looking forward to seeing the pendants later. X

    1. Hmmm - I'm not so sure about that, to be honest. It's far more likely I've gained but it's a comforting thought, thanks. We'll see how next week goes. One thing's for sure - I'm not giving up!

    1. Thanks, Sooze. I have to - I've just stepped over a line I never thought I would reach again. Just shows how easy it is.

  3. Sorry to hear about the weight gain but you have been through the mill recently so only to be expected.

    1. I do hope that's it. It could be but I'm still going to watch everything this week - portions, eating slowly, etc. It can't hurt anyway.
      Thanks, Diane. xx

  4. Maybe just a blip due to all the stressful and sad stuff going on?

    1. I have one more coaster to make and have to find another leaf template. I can't draw for toffee so the Internet/Google Images is a good friend. If I can get it right, I think the bowl will be very nice too. Thanks.

  5. Just a blip, the scales might show a gain but has it affected your clothes? If not, then if you can manage a couple of days of being really careful and keep the calories as low as you dare it should disappear again.

Glad you're enjoying the new pottery classes and people. I remember making a round, the size of a side plate, house number plate for my BIL & SIL, it's still on their wall.

Good luck with the bathroom installment, a bit of a hassle but so worth it in the end.

Woke up this morning with the boiler completely dead, there is nothing like having a hair and body wash with boiling pans of water!! Worked though! BG are coming this afternoon, it was a completely automated phone call, weird, fingers crossed it works.

    1. Oh, no. Just as it starts to get colder again too. I'm glad they can come this afternoon to get it sorted.
Clothes? Well, the jeans do feel a bit tight but that was from last week too so I'm not surprised. I'm sure being extra careful and sensible will do the trick - hope so anyway! :-)
The house number plate sounds really lovely.

  6. A tough one but not surprising after the last few months.
If your dad is like mine he'll enjoy seeing you and want to treat you!
Don't lose heart, you have already been an inspiration to many of us.
Enjoy your time with your dad.
    What's your next knitting project.
Now that your cardigan is finished is finished are you pleased with it?

    1. I haven't quite finished the jumper - I decided to make the neck a polo neck so have a bit more knitting to do. I'll get it done and sewn up this weekend, for sure. I really am pleased with it though. It used a lot less yarn than the pattern said so I will have to think what I can make next. :-)
Dad is great for treats and, yes, he really enjoys it. It's getting him out and his neighbours are coming too so it will be a lovely evening. I won't worry, just try to make sensible choices (after all, it will all taste good anyway) and be careful not to nibble at his biscuits, etc, tomorrow and Sunday. :-)

  7. It’s easy for me to say but hopefully this is a minor blip and the scales will soon start heading in the right direction. It’s also easy for me to say (considering this is an area I struggle with) but maybe think about getting back to swimming regularly - helpful in terms of weight loss and emotional well being.

The pottery sounds interesting so I’m waiting for the photo update.

Do you still plan to continue with your allotment this year?

    1. I'm hoping it's a blip and am planning action to deal with it so fingers crossed. I think you are right - getting back to some swimming would help a lot.
The allotment is a problem. Beth doesn't have time and I've been otherwise engaged but neither of us wants to give it up. It's another pressure at the moment.

  8. Such a lot has changed for you in many ways since your dear mum passed away and it will take you time to find a new normal and pick up on the things you used to do. As everyone else has said give yourself time - it is early days and although the weight gain is disappointing you know you can, when you are ready, lose it again because you have already done it once. Hope you have a nice relaxing weekend with your dad. x

  9. Don’t be too down on yourself, Joy. You have strategies to get back on the right track. When this happens to me now, I always remind myself of this. Have a great, relaxing day. You deserve it! Zenda

    1. It was a real shock as I had honestly expected to lose a bit but gained instead. It was a pleasant day though, so thanks very much and you're right about knowing what to do, many thanks. I need to apply it, that's all!
