Saturday

Morning, everyone.  I will be setting off home after breakast this morning and what a lovely day it is to be out and about.  Yesterday was glorious too and we had all the french windows open to enjoy the spring air.

Thank you for all your lovely comments.  After reading them all, I was so grateful for such lovely bloggy friends.

All went well on Thursday.  I won't pretend it was anything but heartbreaking much of the time but everyone rallied round and there were absolutely no hitches.  Now we all move on again.

I will still be coming up regularly - to keep Dad company.

Once I am home this morning, there will be things to do.  Unpacking, shopping, washing (and drying on the line - yay) as well as throwing open all the windows and dealing with dead flowers in vases, etc.  I might treat myself to some more, just because.

I will catch up on everyone's blogs - I haven't commented much this week because I haven't read much (sorry) so I'm looking forward to getting back into my stride again.

Have a great day and enjoy the lovely weather.  xx

  1. Now it's behind you, you can begin to plan and live normally again. Until a funeral has taken place, there's always a sense of being in limbo, isn't there? We feel like we can't move forward or get on with normal life until it's all been finalised. I hope your Dad can pick up the threads of his life now, he no doubt had to put things on hold before in order to care for your lovely Mum. As did you. Safe drive home, Joy, and I will catch up with you when we're back. xx

    1. He really did put most things on hold over the past two or three years. Yesterday's meal out was one thing and I was glad that he enjoyed it, as we both did too. The manager and some others realised he was back and came over to say welcome back and to have a short chat. That was so lovely and welcoming, it did our hearts good.
Thanks, Sooze, I look forward to catching up with your adventures in due time.

  2. I'm so glad that you all have sunshine to lift your hearts this weekend after such a testing few weeks.
( The months before were hardly carefree either!)
Enjoy it and spend some time outside if possible; time to get out your outside cushions and relax?
I've had some tulips in the house for over a week.
They are still beautiful and not floppy.
My mother taught me to make a hole in the stems as near to the bud as possible with a darning needle and then, after trimming the bottom of the stems put them straight into water.
    Treat yourself to some!

    1. This is very true, life has been stressful for quite a while really. No-one's fault, it just has.
An interesting suggestion about the tulips - I will give that one a go. Thank you.

  4. I glad to read that the funeral went smoothly and that you and your family are now starting to pick up the threads of your lives.

Is your Dad able to be involved in his local community?

    1. Hmm - an interesting question. I would say no, not really. He's very wobbly on his pins now and, to be honest, he has had a life filled with service to the local community in various ways (just like Mum - they were well paired) and was in the process of handing things on when Mum's illness meant that she needed a lot of care.
He still does some accounting for the church and acts as an adviser although, as he always says, his advice is worth as much as it's paid - in other words, don't take it as tablets of stone.

    1. Thanks, Jane. It feels really odd to realise that she's no longer there but memories are (or can be) very kind things.

  8. Good to hear it all went well. It's hard to say goodbye, funerals make heavy hearts but, once they're over, allow you to take a breather and move on to another chapter.

Your Dad will welcome your visits, he has a huge adjustment ahead living on his own, who knows, you might even enjoy some companionable gardening together! ;-)

Hope your journey home is quick and pleasant in this glorious weather.

    1. It was very easy, thanks.
Gardening together is a good idea. He's already making plans for tomatoes, etc, which he had previously decided he wasn't going to bother with this year. That's good.
