Sunday

Good morning.  It started raining at some point yesterday evening after a very damp and drizzly afternoon and, my goodness, it poured.  How it poured!  I think it's stopped now but it's still extremely wet out there and I'm relieved it isn't snow.  It's nowhere near cold enough for snow.

I had a pleasant time at Beth's.  When I arrived she, Dave and Al were deep in a game of Catan (never heard of it before but apparently it is quite a thing) so I read the rules and tried to understand what was going on.  I failed miserably!

Then we had lunch and a good old chat before I felt myself fading out so came home, snuggled in my quilt and had a very welcome snooze.

The rest of the day was spent in intermittent snoozing and watching telly and I still slept well overnight so that was good.

Beth's over today but she'll be busy so I will be doing my own thing.  I'd like to get the planning sorted for the week, if possible, and I want to look over a couple of dressmaking patterns for the summer, just to go through the instructions and to get into my head how it all goes together.  I used to be able to see through a pattern easily but it is so long since I made anything for myself.  I'm sure it will all come back to me though.

When I last made anything significant for myself, it was cheaper to make than to buy but nowadays it is quite the opposite.  How times change, eh?

I have a few things to get from Morrisons at some point, mainly to get myself out of the house for some fresh air.  I've been a bit stuck in for most of the week and am missing a bit of exercise.

Have a great day!
xx

  1. I used to make nearly all my own clothes and everything for my two daughters including anoraks, school outfits, ballet dresses and leotards. I can't think where I found the time.
A walk in the fresh air will probably be beneficial and help your full recovery - these viruses just take time and I think you just have to go with it and rest when you feel tired again. Take care x

    1. I used to make a lot of my children's clothes as wella s some of mine. I still have one dress I am particularly fond of that I very nearly fit into again. It's long and a bit medieval in a way and I just loved it. I might try it on this afternoon, just to see how far off I am.

  2. Hope you are feeling better and the virus is on the way out. My mum made a lot ofour clothes from cut down jumble sale stuff when we were little and knitted all our woollen stuff. She is in her 80s now and still knitting for the babies in the family and the prem babies at the local hospital. It's awful when these viruses take hold and I am still dragging myself to work when they strike so at least you can rest up and give yourself time to recover. Have a good week!

    1. Thanks. I think when one has professional responsibilities, it can be very much against the grain to not attend to them. It's a tricky one, even more so if no work equals no pay. Teachers have/had it lucky in that respect.

    2. I do get paid (not very well as I work in the NHS) but we are always so short staffed and people depend on us that I don't like to be off unless absolutely necessary.

    3. It does make it very difficult, doesn't it?

    4. It's just life isn't it. I know I am much luckier than many. I hope seeing all your family for lunch will be a tonic.

  3. It was blowing a hooley and chucking it down with rain during the night, kept me awake. Blue sky and sunshine now but still very windy indeed. Sorry your bug is taking time to disappear, must be very wearing and frustrating. In needlework class at school, I chose to make a pair of trousers - with a zip - of all things, even the teacher asked "are you sure?". I should have listened to her, I never did finish them and it put me off of making clothes ever since.

    1. It's breezy here too - not a very calming day.
I never mastered trouser zips either. Also, my modern machine has a totally different zipper foot and I have to relearn how to put in normal zips all over again. I bet there's some youtube tutorials.

  4. It sounds like a lovely weekend of family combined with rest and relaxation, with a little planning thrown in so you can feel accomplishment, too.
