 Morning, everyone.

These are for Ali - this is what I do with my cucumbers. Very rough and ready but it keeps them up.  I only do it because Dad did, I have no idea if it is the 'right' thing to do or not.

Yesterday was a really pleasant day.  I got my other things done and now the car is booked in for MOT and service nxt month.  I did one more load of washing and chilled quite a lot.  A 'me' day!

Today, I'm due in town early for an eye test and health check - which will mean new glasses.  These two months are going to be expensive.  New glasses, car stuff, NT and RHS subscriptions - and a naughty holiday to pay for by the end of August.  Oh, well . . .

I'll keep it short this morning so I get everything done before I need to go into town.  After the opticians, I will take a little stroll around town, I think, before coming home.  Then it is the usual stuff.

Have a lovely day, everyone.  xx

Hope the glasses don't break the bank!

    1. It's very Professor Branestawm-ish and the string will give at some point, but it serves its purpose in the meanwhile. It was only meant to be a temporary thing but I think it is now in is fourth or fifth year.
Me too - but needs must. xx

  2. We buy our glasses online - there are several companies offering this service and it can be much cheaper (if you don't fall for the 'designer' styles) x x

  3. The cucumber frame looks fine and has served you well. String can always be replaced.
Good luck with the optician health check, they're brilliant, aren't they! Our optician now has a small machine with which they can check all the measurements of the existing frame and lenses. This enables them to order the new lenses without having to have the frames and once arrived swap the new lenses with the old within minutes whilst you are waiting. Removes the need to buy new frames.

    1. I'll write about it tomorrow but I was very impressed with the service I got. I rather fancied new frames this time but they did ask me if I wanted to use the old frames or not. It's amazing what they can do nowadays, I think. xx

  4. Excellent cucumber rig - I only have one plant and it's very unruly indeed!
I totally get it about doing things your dads way - I'm the same with tomato growing, I love knowing that I follow methods that mum passed on to me x

    1. Unruly! That made me smile.
Yes, it's a sort of tradition and it feels 'secure'. xx

  5. I just love your garden. Did you have to get a stronger prescription? I think I need to go back and get mine tested too, close up is beginning to get a tad blurry!

    1. Thank you, Maureen.
Yes, I did. I knew I would because, like you, close up was getting blurry - nothing too bad, just a bit annoying. Best to get it checked, I think. xx

  6. I have pretty much given up on asking Harvey to put something up for the cukes to climb. The one year he did so it was so much easier to pick them. Your climbing frame is awesome.

    God bless.

    1. It does make it easier to pick them and also to actually see that there's fruit there, good point. Thanks for the compliment! :-)

  7. What a good idea on the cukes! Ugh, glasses are so expensive over here even with the insurance. Both husband and I need new glasses. We just keep putting off making the appointment. Hope you had a good day!

    1. Oh, dear - both of you, that's definitely ouch! It's the sort of thing that doesn't go away either, isn't it?
I did, thank you, it was pleasant.

  8. We had our eyes tested on the same day! Thankfully, my prescription hasn't changed, as a new pair of glasses can be rather expensive. X

  9. That cuke frame looks just the job. Are you harvesting any yet? Mine are a few days away from being ready then they'll start coming thick and fast. I'll be pickling plenty this year.

    1. No, not yet. I had two little ones but they shrivelled up and I took them off. I have four growing nicely now and I'd say around a week. I think I might pickle some - I'm sort of 'getting into' pickled stuff. xx
