Tuesday

Morning, everyone.  We've had rain overnight and it's still drizzling as I discovered when I took my early morning trip to the shed to get today's supplies out of the freezer.  Very mild though, which is good.

Yesterday was a much more active day that the weekend.  Lazy is all well and good but a bit of action is more fun.

I started off getting myself into a bit of a muddle with times.  After a meandering start, I set off to specific shops without checking the time.  When I did glance at my watch, I realised that I needed to get a move on in order to be home in time for circuit training which Lindsey was delivering online instead of face to face (for very good reasons).

I got a few of the things on my list but not everything but the rest can jolly well wait!

Circuits was good but because I'd unintentionally missed breakfast, I snatched a banana and an apple just before it started and the energy was just beginning to flow towards the end of the session.  Oh, well, I'm sure it was good for me anyway.

Tuition was fine as usual.  I'm blitzing the beginnings of algebra with my student and they are starting to get the hang of the very first steps.  I was terribly confused about algebra when I started it (at secondary school - they start it earlier now) so I am being as careful as I can be to make sure they really understand each step of the journey.

I discovered something about my new little coffee to go machine.  It makes jolly good herbal/fruit tea!  I fancied lemon and ginger, being all coffee-d out, so thought I'd try one tea bag, just to see how it worked, and the results were just how I like it - not too weak and not too strong.  As I type, I'm enjoying a spiced apple one and it's equally nice and so much easier than a bag in a mug.

Today is Christmas Cake start day.  It was my lovely Mum's birthday on Oct 19th and it always marked the day when the dried fruit met the alcohol for the first time.
She and I use/used Delia's classic cake recipe although I modify it somewhat with dried cranberries and I use Cointreau, not brandy, because it's lovely!
So later on, that's what I will be doing.  The cake itself will probably be mixed up and baked Friday or Saturday, I'll see how the time works out.  It's not hard but you do have to be around!

The other thing for today is that I have to go into town to my bank so I thought I would take the opportunity to mooch around and do a bit of window shopping.  I still haven't got the courage to travel by bus though, something I used to love doing.  However, there's a fair bit of Covid amongst the local teens right now, spread in school, and while they won't be on the bus, contacts might be.  I'm not risking it and will take my car.  At least the petrol thing has sorted itself out, fingers crossed.

I meant to sort out my herbs and spices shelf at the weekend but never got round to it so I could do that this afternoon.
And there's a pile of washing awaiting my attention . . .
Oh, well, it keeps me going.
Have a super day, everyone, and stay well and dry!  xx

  1. I'm with you on not using the bus. I wait until Tony can give me a lift if I need to go anywhere as this virus is really starting to rear its ugly head again.

    1. Cases seem generally to be less severe but . . .
I think a lot of people feel like me. It's annoying when one has a bus pass.

  2. Well done to you getting algebra across successfully - I don't think I ever understood it- but managed a Maths O level!
    Have a good day

    1. Me too but . . . I can't say I understand anything but the absolute basics - year 6 level. I did that Open Learn course last year and still . . . not my thing.

  3. I hated maths, especially algebra, logarithms etc!

I definitely wouldn't go on a bus or train....to me it would seem like being trapped in a closed room with strangers who may not even be wearing masks, and you have no way of knowing if they've come into contact with Covid. Husband wants to go to the cinema to see the new Bond - I'd like to see it too, but am not keen on being in a cinema.

Have a good day, Joy xx

    1. Personally, I'd wait until it comes out on DVD, to be honest. I feel no inclination to see that film but when the next Fantastic Beasts comes out, unless the situation is totally different by then, I'm waiting.

    1. Me too but that's the way it was taught. I really enjoy the maths I know well, up to year 6 level - and that's an awful lot higher than it was ion my day.
People may mutter about falling standards but they are truly now.
Also, the emphasis is on knowing WHY - and that is making all the difference.

  5. I'm with you on avoiding public transport for now. I'm eligible for a bus pass in November so it'll be frustrating to not use it but better safe than sorry. The numbers are creeping up again in this area, a reminder that we're not out of the woods yet.

Hope you enjoy your day xx

    1. I looked at my pass yesterday and it needs renewing soon. I suppose I will get notification!
It was a fab thing to have before and I am sure it will be again in the future. xx

  6. I never understood algebra at school, my thinking was always maths is numbers English is words and letters, don't confuse the two ... haha, yep, I was always a bit of a rebel.

I've not been on a bus for a couple of years now and with bus passes not available to us for a few years yet I think it is actually cheaper for us to go by car. Last time we went into Lancaster it was £8 each for a return ticket.

    1. I had several trips planned that involved hopping on a bus. They have been shelved, of course. I think the car is (usually) a lot faster and more convenient, especially if you are bringing stuff home. However, a bus was fun. Someone else does all the work!

  7. I'm going to have to take the bus on Monday when I take my car in for a service, and I'm not looking forward to it!

  8. We don't have a bus here so it is either drive or walk. Many is the time I have walked to pick up a few things at the grocery. It is a bit arm pulling carrying the items home though.

    I loved algebra. Hated calculus.

    God bless.

    1. I never did calculus - or if I did it has been erased from my memory!

A shame about no buses. Healthier to walk, I guess.
