Tuesday, 24-03-26

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a forecast-to-get-chillier-and-wetter Tuesday morning.  It sounds like winter hasn't quite had the last word yet in some areas.

After giving my muslin cloths the hottest wash I could, I took a good look at them and decided that some were really past it (stains and holes) so they have been repurposed for car, window clearing, etc, etc, I looked on Amazon without much hope and there they were - babies muslin nappies much cheaper than I expected and, given that some of the ones I am using right now were bought nearly fifty years ago (Beth will be 48 this year), I reckon this lot will see me out and well beyond (Beth and/or Anna will take them over, I am sure).
Don't I live an exciting life?

Apart from that, Circuits was good as always but that's it for two weeks now - next week is the break between blocks and then it is Easter Bank Holiday.  I'm glad Lindsey is generous with her pre-records.

Kay couldn't come.  That's OK, things are tough right now and I'm the last one to want to make things harder.
So when I got home from circuits, I went out again.  First of all I went to B&M to look for plastic storage.  I didn't find what I wanted but they did have some jars of roasted red peppers very much cheaper than in places like Morrisons or even Aldi so I stocked up.
Then I went next door to Marriage's Mill Shop to stock up with rye and strong wholemeal flours before driving on to Sainsburys where I got my spelt flour plus a few other bits and bobs  I'm still not impressed with their range of clothing though.
Now I am well stocked with my different flours which makes me happy.  I think I have someone else to bake sourdough for, starting in the middle of May.  Plenty of opportunity to keep practising!

Today is Groove and then housework.  I'm glad I did most of the washing done yesterday and dried in the sunshine.  Those muslins should arrive sometime today and they will also need a wash before use.

Apart from that, the day's my own and, right now, I have no idea . . .  :-)

Hope you have a lovely day too.  xx

  2. Do you remember the Bodychef lidded hard plastic containers? I still have some and use them mainly to freeze breakfast berry portions and left-over sauces etc.
I saw recently that Lakeland do packs of 10x200ml lidded square containers so I think I'll get some of those as the stack of Bodychef ones has diminished over time.

    1. I do and I got rid of the last ones last year - they had deteriorated and they do say it's not good for you once they go like that. The Lakeland ones are really good.
I wonder if Bodychef is still going. Must take a look because as a week on that occasionally might be fun (and expensive). xx

  3. It nearly always happens the weather reversing back to winter after a tempting few warm sunny days. My sister was married on this day in 2012 and it was a beautiful day, warm and sunny. We are overcast and cold again here today.
    Have a good day. x

    1. It does, doesn't it? I've turned up the heating a bit, just for a few days until this spell passes. It was the same here and it's rained overnight (it's now Wednesday) xx

  4. I was half expecting the weather to change back to cold and wet after seeing my Facebook Memories yesterday. Seemingly we had thick snow in Wales this time last year. I bet everyone that you bake bread for really appreciates it, you'll be opening a bakery before you know it. :-)

    1. Oh, goodness. Mind you, they are forecasting snow on higher ground, aren't they? It does happen pretty often before we are properly into spring, doesn't it? xx

  5. Very overcast here today and strong winds coming.
Those muslin cloths are a good idea, and can be used for all sorts of things.

    1. The wind makes it feel mush colder than it really is, I think.
The muslins have landed and are fine. I'm well set now! xx

  6. I'm just wondering what you use the muslin cloths for? Is it for dusting and cleaning up? I expect they dry more quickly than other cloths and as they aren't made from artificial fibres - that's another plus. I look forward to hearing. Jane in Derby x

    1. Yes, all that sort of thing, sometimes for drying up too. Wiping down the bath, polishing stuff (like glass - I don't have any silver lol); anything you would use a J cloth or similar and they are pure cotton, loosely woven and yes, they dry very quickly after being washed.
Originally they were used as inner nappy liners but then liners came in and muslins went out. I, being frugal-ish, used to wash and iron the liners so they did three or four goes before they needed chucking. I started using muslins as cleaning cloths and so it went on. So, so useful.

    1. They're the best, I think. Good for all sorts of cleaning, mopping, wiping, polishing. No need for fancy microfibre cloths (although I do have a few of them too!) xx

  8. Glad you found the muslins you needed. I use flannel for cleaning.

    God bless.
