I've just noticed that, in my new diary for 2026, each weekday has some sort of 'motivational quote' that I thought I would reproduce in here because - well, why not?
Today's is:
Be a first rate-version of yourself, not a second-rate version of someone else.
Judy Garland
1. It's going to be nice and colourful and
2. It will be a big one!!!
I've done more squares than those on show and should end up with twenty so it will be a 4x5 rather than a square like the Quiet Skies one.
I think the shading works quite well.
Yesterday I spent some time in the kitchen, sorting stuff out, making and baking Lindsey's sourdough loaf and making some bacon and butterbean soup (delicious). That's about it really - a lazy day before proper, real life resumes - apart from the crafting. I admit I spent quite a lot of time wielding the old crochet hook!
I missed the first of the new Great Pottery Throwdown; I have it recorded so I will enjoy that today or tomorrow.
I gave unto myself . . .
Thirty tea bags
one cross stitch moggy
one Christmas book
my favourite perfume
twenty gnomes to crochet
stuff for my hair
one book to read ................
two smelly soaps
one reed diffuser
warm, fluffy socks
and a Jamie Oliver book
I can't really remember getting these but I obviously did. They might be helpful in weaning off the coffee a bit, you never know.
Lindsey's new six-week block starts today with circuits. I'm looking forward to it but a bit uncertain. Exertion is still starting off the coughing but, well, of I have to stop and cough, I have to stop and cough. Her online classes were a real godsend over the past two weeks, keeping me in the loop a bit after missing the last two weeks or so of the previous block.
Once I am home again, it is Monday so housework day. As tomorrow is a Kay-day, I will concentrate on getting everything but the Christmas Tree down and away in the boxes. That includes the festive china . . . the lot! I'm sad, I love the brightness, but tomorrow is twelfth night so it has to be done.
I will make a yeasted and seeded loaf for Beth - I do her one a week.
And I will work on getting pages set up in the other blog - the first lot didn't work at all and I have no idea why not. Time to read the instructions a bit more carefully, I guess.
Time to go and do my Facebook stuff so I will love you and leave you. Have a good day, stay warm and well and, whatever you have planned, may it all go really well.
See you tomorrow. xx
See you tomorrow. xx

Your crochet blankets grow very quickly! Did you teach yourself to crochet? I have knitted since I was a little girl and can pretty much knit anything, given the inclination, but I just can't seem to grasp crochet. I very done a half day workshop, bought a book and watched you tube videos. I would love to get better as I see so many lovely finishes, is it just a matter of keep practising do you think? Melanie
ReplyDeleteLike you, I was a knitter to start with - I learns at my mother's knee, so to speak. I can't remember when I tried crochet but I do remember it didn't come easily, I was holding the hook and the yarn like a knitter, so I went to the library, borrowed a book, MADE myself follow the pictures and just kept trying. It did come after a while. I think it really is a case of just keep trying and, gradually, it becomes more automatic. Good luck. xx
DeleteYes, same for me I want to hold the hook like a knitting needle, will keep trying! Thanks for confirming what I thought - practice is key xx Melanie
DeleteStick at it and it will come, I am sure. xx
DeleteWe have a centimeter of snow and our road doesn't get gritted but a few cars have managed to go uphill. It's bitterly cold, -3, feels like -5, but the sun is now out so hopefully it'll do a bit of melting, eventually. The buses are fully operational, usually they avoid our hilly loop around the estate when it has snowed.
ReplyDeleteI think the maple leaf colours, background and edging colours work really well. xx
Yes, we had a sprinkle of snow too - I hadn't looked when I posted this morning. Really cold all day and it didn't all disappear, despite the sun.
DeleteThank you - I like the colours too. I think they give more dimension to the work. xx
Wow-the maple blanket is going to be a stunner. I’m off to do the first big shop of the year and will probably need a lie down in a darkened room when I come home! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI bet you will - hope it went OK and you got everything you needed.
DeleteAnd thanks. :-) xx
The maple leaves are very effective, and yes very colourful. I found it such a relief to take the Christmas decorations down a few days ago. All the lovely clear surfaces made me smile, although I was slightly sad to lose the twinkly lights so I'm turning my salt lamp on every night instead.
ReplyDeleteI've got all the 'clutter' down and away now but am leaving the tree until the afternoon of the 6th. I will miss it. xx
DeleteDo you count the 12 days of Christmas from the 26th December? I always start counting from the 25th, Christmas day being the first day. I may have been doing it wrong all these years lol.
ReplyDeleteI think we're both right. I found this:
DeleteIn some customs, the Twelve Days of Christmas are counted from sundown on the evening of 25 December until the morning of 6 January, meaning that the Twelfth Night falls on the evening of 5 January and the Twelfth Day falls on 6 January.
But it is just tradition and traditions very from place to place.
xx
The blanket is going to be just beautiful. The shading works perfectly.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks, Jackie. I'm enjoying it. xx
