Good morning, everyone. It seems very apt to focus on tomatoes today - my Dad loved growing his tomatoes and always had loads. I have inherited that from him.
Here's a clip of the tomatoes on the other side with the clematis at the beginning and finishing with the blueberry (one little clump of berries this year - a shame) and courgette number one! Again, apologies for the noisy background.
And here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KY0k5fNKOs
Eileen asked what types of tomato I had.
Yesterday's clip has, in this order and just one unless it says otherwise: :
Ailsa Craig
Alicante
Pear Drops
First in the Field
Gardener's Delight x 2 (from Chris)
Tumbling Tiger
And then, in the clip above:
Super Marmande
Rapunzel
Shirley
Golden Crown
Black Opal
Red Plum (that's what it says on the label - I don't know specifically what it is - there are so many)
Sungold
Sweet Aperitif
Honeycomb x 2 - well, one and a half now!
Nagina
The links are to various plant companies, RHS, etc, so you can see what they should turn into - fingers crossed - with a bit of info! Some of them I have never seen or heard of before. Some, I think are much more well known.
Do you grow tomatoes? What kinds?
Wow, that's a lot of tomatoes! Variety I mean - well, and quantity! When we grew tomatoes it was generally a salad variety, a plum and some tumbling cherry toms in hanging baskets - 2 or 3 plants of each. xx
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have a selection, isn't it? I set out to get some new (to me) ones this year. I could quite happily eat garden tomatoes morning, noon and night - I just love them. xx
DeleteNo tomato shortage in your house this year|!
ReplyDeleteOut of those I've only ever grown a couple - many years ago. I tended to try newer varieties each year and now only plum as they don't have so many seeds. Just two this year - Sun Grape and Super Mama
< chuckle > I sincerely hope not! I couldn't find any larger plum plants this year - maybe they all get snapped up quickly.
DeleteI looked up both those - the Super Mama is just what I was looking for. Maybe, next year - if I remember. xx
What a super photo of your dad, thank you for sharing it. I think next year I will start growing more tomatoes. We grew them when I was working so would bring home some seedings. I did enjoy picking them fresh for lunch, but as my garden chair was next to them I would wave my hand in the foliage (I do love that tomato smell) and then pick one or two to eat there and then! I need to do that again. Last year were Gardeners Delight and a small yellow variety.

He was a gentleman through and through, was my Dad. A lovely person.
DeleteI pick them and eat them like sweets too. Luckily, they are very good for you and very healthy! Gardener's Delight are lovely, aren't they? xx
Lovely photo of your dad :-) I'm only growing Roma this year and I'm just starting to get flowers xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ali. Good luck with the tomatoes - wishing you a huge crop! xx
DeleteA bittersweet day for you today. The tomatoes are an honour to your father. x x
ReplyDeleteThey are, yes. Very much so. Thanks, Janice. xx
DeleteA poignant day for you and a lovely memory to share with your Dad! I also feel you are much more green fingered than you think, your Dad did well and you do him proud!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Annabeth. That's very kind. xx
DeleteSending hugs your way. It doesn't seem that long ago. Saying that as it's coming up on two years that I lost Mum. I don't think the heart ache will ever go away, but it's a little easier to remember the good times now.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really that long. Two years is no time at all. With time, things do sort of smooth over and you're right, it is easier to access all the good and lovely memories. Love to you. xx
DeleteI remember when you posted this photo, Joy, and thought it was a great photo of the man you spoke about often. ❤️ Catriona
ReplyDeleteThank you, Catriona. It is just him . . . xx
DeleteThat's a lovely photo of your Dad, I remember it from last year, he has such a lovely friendly face and a real twinkle about him.
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of lovely tomato plants there and judging from all the flowers you are in for a bumper crop. I have a few Gardeners Delight, one Shirley and one plant that simply says 'Yellow Tomatoes' ... it's not going to be up to my previous years tomato crops is it. ;-)
I'm really happy how well they are doing at the moment. Fingers crossed the dreaded bl*ght stays away!
DeleteIt'll be interesting how the 'yellow tomatoes' come out. It's the bit like the label on my 'red plum' we will see.
Yes, it's a lovely photo, thank you. xx
That's a huge selection of tomato varieties and a lovely connection to your Dad. It's a great photo of him ... he looks like a happy man. xx
ReplyDeleteHe was - very cheerful and a great support when needed. xx
DeleteLovely photo x
ReplyDeleteMy mum, who passed last year, loved her tomato growing too - she taught me well and would be proud of my efforts I think :-)
Thinking of you especially today
