Saturday, 13-06-26

Morning, everyone.  The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the air is mild.  It's a beautiful summer morning here in Mid-Essex.  I'm glad about that because it's working in the community garden this morning.

I didn't do anything yesterday really except knock up a pot of chicken, bean and veg leftovers stew so I went out just now to take more standard views of the garden.

One of the hanging baskets on the garden room - they're all looking very pretty now.
The new rhubarb is still flourishing.
Now about 9cms in length and, I think, almost ready to cut.  It's a mini one so shouldn't be allowed to get too big anyway.

Maybe tomorrow.

I'm really happy with how these are doing.  There's loads of babies now and most of them have two trusses.  Really looking forward to these tomatoes!
And this morning's little picking.  Not loads but they will be nice in my breakfast fruit and yogurt.

As mentioned, I'm off to help in the community garden this morning.  I'll be careful, but at this time of year it's more weeding and generally keeping things going, nothing heavy.

Apart from that, it is an easy day again and I have no specific plans, I'll just see what comes up.

How about you?  Have a lovely Saturday and stay cool!  xx

  1. Hanging baskets are lovely and getting into full swing - and then the daily sticky fingers from Petunia dead heading .... ;-)

  2. A steady summer morning like that has a calming feel to it, with the garden settling into its midseason rhythm. The hanging baskets bringing colour up around the garden room, young rhubarb moving toward its first cut, and tomatoes starting to build trusses all point to a good growing year taking shape step by step. Even the small fruit picking has its place, just enough to make breakfast feel a bit more complete. A gentle day in the community garden suits this kind of weather, where the work is more about tending and keeping things in order than anything heavy.

    1. It is all very restful, despite the work, and on those warm summer days, it has a rhythm all its own.

I don't give a day to the community garden, just a couple of hours, but it is very satisfying. xx

  4. Better weather at last and I’m stuck in because I really must catch up with some chores and stuff………I’ve promised myself an afternoon in the garden 🤞😍
Lovely photos of your produce, so much further ahead than ours although I did pick a handful of beans yesterday.

    1. How frustrating is that! I really hope the chores went quickly and easily and you got your garden afternoon.
How lovely to be harvesting beans! xx

  5. Your hanging basket is looking amazing. They really begin to spill out and spill over at this time of year. X

    1. I'm so pleased with them. I shall reuse the pots next year to do my own planting - I think places like B&Q do trays of mixed plants for hanging baskets. They are small so easy to fill and they still make a fine show. Thanks, Jules. xx

  6. What a lovely hanging basket. Look at how your garden is producing food. Love it.

    God bless.

    1. It's nice, isn't it. I haven't planned to grow much in the way of food this year but what I have seems to be doing pretty well. xx
