Thank you for your lovely comments yesterday. I'm definitely not well enough to be going anywhere today, either on my own or in a crowd of vulnerable elderlies - some of them are anyway!
It's just a cold, not flu - disgusting but not dangerous in anyway. After a rough day yesterday, I slept really well for the first time in a week and didn't properly wake until nearly seven. Bliss . . . Getting up was rough (you know what colds are like) but it's OK, just yucky!! I have a nice fresh cuppa tea beside me and I will follow that up at some point with a coffee. Perfect!

I spent a lot of time doing cross stitch yesterday because that's what I fancied doing, so the advent bit of it is out of sync, but there'd a lot of border to do so I expect it will take me until Christmas day to do all of that anyway, and maybe through the Twelve Days as well.
I caught up with Sunday's Game of Wool. I know it has taken some stick but I am enjoying it and the most recent one was great - making yarn jewellery and a panel of lace. I( have always found knitted lace fiendishly difficult and this was a very complicated pattern, both in the following and in the unravelling and picking up when a mistake was made. I feel it has now found its feet.
Dear Chris went and got me some throat/cough sweets and some Vick (Morrisons cheapo version) and they helped considerably. She's asked me if I need anything else and I think some cough stuff might be a Good Idea. I thought I had some but then remembered I saw it was out of date a while ago so chucked it out.
Today's tea bag is cranberry, rose hip and hibiscus - that sounds really nice.
There's the usual candle, tin and puzzle section plus a pair of tine Christmas stocking earrings.
The crochet is another heart.
All good, all usable, I'm keeping up with the candles and using the tins. One of them is going to be for these Christmas earrings!!
Is anyone else totally baffled by the fuss over last week's Strictly elimination and the amount of toxic hate there is around. Yes, a good dancer went but he had a worse dance both on the day and in the dance off. And it's a Game/competition, for goodness sakes!!
Today is going to be a lot like yesterday, I think, but crochet instead of cross stitch. I have a couple of box sets to watch, should I need something, and I'm feeling tired. They say sleep is the best medicine, don't they?
I really want to feel better by Sunday.

Today's Advent music is the beautiful Thorns in the Straw, written and performed by Graham Kendrick.
Here's a link to the lyrics.

Any Stricly nasty comments have passed me by but despite the public vote appearing to be rather biased at times they never seem to let experienced dancers last to the end, which to my mind is a good thing and what Strictly is supposed to be about, non- dancers doing well and being rewarded for their improvements. xx
ReplyDeleteI agree - it's good to see the 'journey' behind the dances but I also know that it is a rare celebrity that hasn't had some dance training as part of their overall training and development. It's a hard one and I think both Amber and Lewis were 'second choices' after first choices had to withdraw. I guess they had to find people who could do it . . . xx
DeleteI have double checked I am leaving this comment on the right blog!!
ReplyDeleteI could sleep presently and I don't have a cold!! Hope you feel better soon.
I don't know too much about strictly only what I hear, mainly on people's blog comments, but the programme seems to attract a lot of trouble in one form or another. Still maybe like a naughty child that attracts attention any publicity is good for the ratings and all the better, it seems, if it is bad as viewers will watch it all the more.
I haven't seen the knitting programme either, I did stumble on the sewing bee one recently and enjoyed that but it was almost the last one in the series.
I am always late to the party it appears.
Have a good day and enjoy all your advent goodies. X
PS extra zinc with vit C is good. Vitamin D also but that takes time to build up so need to take it well before a cold but zinc and vit C work straight away to help immune system shake off viruses.
lol - yes, it's the right page.
DeletePersonally, I think it is a case of kicking when it's down. Yes, there were some issued a few years ago and they have worked hard to get them sorted. A lot of the recent ones have been like 'Strictly Star does XYZ and when you read, it is someone who happened to be in Strictly ten years ago and absolutely nothing to do with the show. Toxic.
It's really not that bad, Strictly, but you know what social media is like nowadays. You'll never please everyone . . .
I am pretty sure you can find Sewing Bee, Throw Down, Game of Wool and other similar shows on iPlayer or the equivalent. Worth a little search, if you want.
I do take a tablet that is calcium, magnesium, vitamin D and zinc. Maybe this virus would be so much worse if I didn't. Who knows? :-) xx
I've missed nasty commenting about last weeks elimination - thankfully. I did read somewhere that this year had the most people dropping out through injury in the history of the programme.
ReplyDeleteI only managed part of one of the knitting thing - seemed just a vehicle for Tom Daley to prance about! but then I only knit dishcloths so what do I know!
Hope you feel fully better soon. Touch wood I'm avoiding colds so far but then I've not seen so much of the grandchildren - now that they are at school.
I hadn't thought about the dropping out but, yes . . . three, I think. Dani Dyer before the show started, Stefan and La Voix.
DeleteLOL re Tom - he has grown into it, I think, and the last two have been good and I have learnt things. I do hope they do another series.
And thanks - good for you and I hope you stay bug free. xx
I don't watch Strictly, so I don't really know what has been said but it seems to me that there is a lot of toxic hate everywhere at the moment, it's really ramped up on social media hasn't it. It makes switching off the computer and putting down our phones a really good idea if we want to make it into Christmas in any sort of calm manner.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling a bit better today. xx
Yes, it is all social media. I try to keep away from those areas but it's very much in yer face, so to speak. It just irritates me - where has common sense and a modicum of kindness gone for some people?
DeleteThanks, Sue. xx
Three days coming, three days with you and three days going - I've never actually timed a cold, but that's what 'they' say. Hope you're feeling better now - sleep is good.
ReplyDeleteHmmm - interesting. When I read this yesterday, it set me thinking, so many thanks. It does make sense. xx
DeleteI can’t get into Strictly this year but leaving nasty comments is not needed-just switch it off! Our hospitals here are at breaking point with flu and mask wearing has been made mandatory for visitors and staff. I’m attempting to sew a new kind of specs case but it’s not really going very well. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI read there's major concerns about hospitals being able to cope. I think this mild weather doesn't help; the bugs just thrive (very non-medical pov here!!).
DeleteIt is sensible to bring back the masks.
Fingers crossed for the specs case. Maybe things will fall into place xx
My husband and I are just getting over colds. We know they are not dangerous but they make you feel so rough yukky. Hope you are well and truly over it by Christmas. XXXXX Maureen in MO
ReplyDeleteYes, they do, they really do. Thanks very much, Maureen, and I hope you and husband feel loads better very quickly. xx
DeleteI am yukky but slowly getting use to the stuffy nose and head cold. I have been staying in and getting things finished for Christmas, which is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Aw, my sympathies, Jackie. It is unpleasant but an opportunity to get ahead - when one feels up to it. Get well soon. xx
DeleteHope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sharon. xx
DeleteSo sorry about RAH tomorrow. I think you made the right decision, hopefully the cold will be gone by Christmas. If you did go tomorrow, as you said you could pick something else up and be ill over Christmas. What a great advent calendar, so many good causes being helped. Wishing you good health soon Joy. June xx
ReplyDeleteI'm very disappointed but it helps to feel convinced that it was the right decision. It means I have a free weekend too. Lovely. xx
