Morning, all. A bit late today because I have been busy in the kitchen, making leek and potato soup, two small loaves of bread and starting my breakfast waffles. All done now.
It's starting to blow out there and the sky looks very heavy so I guess we are in for a less than pleasant day, maybe weekend. At least the wind is blowing all the leaves into convenient piles, making them a lot easier to sweep up - silver linings are good! And we're not supposed to be getting anything too extreme in this corner of the UK, thankfully.
I was so pleased with a loss yesterday at SW group, taking me right to my target weight again. At SW you have a leeway of three pounds up or down; after that, you have a week to get back in range and then, if not successful, you need to pay for sessions again (or stop going, of course, you always have that option). I'd rather stay in my seven pound range, which is generous enough to be sensible, especially at this time of year.
After group, I did my usual small, fresh food shop at Morrisons which is pretty much next door to the hall.
I came home to an email telling me my wine would be delivered between five and seven, more or less, and you will be relieved to read that it is now all unpacked and ready to take to the garden room storage. Out of sight, out of mind.
Hopefully, that is the end of that! Phew.
The rest of the day was spent as usual - housework, meal prep, some clothes washing and some knitting/crochet. I was planning to make the bread but made a weetabix loaf instead. This is a classic SW recipe that is really rather nice (and a bit naughty but not terribly so unless you smother it with butter!). However, it is now sliced, inter-leaved and frozen. Out of sight . . . etc
Today looks like being much the same. As already mentioned, the forecast is not great and I am cosy and warm. The house smells of fresh bread and fresh coffee (are there any better aromas?) and I am in my cosy PJs and snuggle hood, reluctant to change a thing. So I won't - yet. I used to be very happy to stay in PJs all day but now it doesn't quite sit right. Another sign of getting old, I guess.
I got an email about this rather lovely crocheted patchwork scarf from The Unravelled Mitten site - I think one of you recommended this site and it's lovely so thank you.Do I NEED a scarf. No, not really. Do I WANT to make this? - of course I do.
It is 'worsted' (US yarns) which I think is Aran weight but I can easily use my DK stash (which has built up again alarmingly quickly) and either enlarge the squares or do three in a row rather than two.
And I have a friend who would really love this and use it so . . . yup!

Right, well, this is late so I will shut up and get it posted. I hope you are all safe and well. Take care and don't go out unless you have to today (if the weather is bad). xx
We have snow which will turn to heavy rain later and the roads are chaos! I am supposed to be out for lunch with some friends today but I am hoping it’s cancelled as I need to walk to the restaurant and it’s very slippy underfoot. It’s rather be reading and crafting until it’s time for Strictly. Keep warm. Catriona
ReplyDeleteThat really doesn't sound at all nice and walking in it even less so. Take care and - well, I don't want to say I hope it is cancelled because it sounds a lovely thing, but I hope if it does happen, it will be safer underfoot. xx
DeleteIt sounds like a good day to stay indoors. Wet and windy here and feeling colder than it actually is.
ReplyDeleteThat's the wind-chill, isn't it? Yes, definitely a day to stay inside, for sure. xx
DeleteYour house sounds like the right place to be on a day like today, bread and coffee aromas and all cosy, what's not to love. I have never managed a day in pyjamas, I'm usually dressed an hour or so after I've gotten up, once the painkillers have kicked in and I can move again. That scarf looks lovely. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt does, doesn't it. I took one look and thought 'oooh, lovely'. I can't start it yet but it is on The List Of Things To Make. :-) xx
DeleteSounds like a lovely day! I don't think I've ever stayed in PJs all day - well, other than the rare times when I've been unwell with flu or something. I do like to get my PJs and lovely snuggly fleece dressing gown on earlier in the evenings when it's winter, though! Sorry for not commenting much.....for some reason I haven't seen some of your recent blogs as Blogger seems to be leaving some of them off my reading list again, I know not why! Have a lovely cosy day Joy, it's blowing a hooley here. xx
ReplyDeleteI think Blogger oes some very off things at times. I've not been commenting either and feel very guilty - I MUST get back in the habit.
DeleteIt seems to have eased off a bit here but it's raining and is generally very unpleasant indeed. I won't be going out. xx
Wet and windy Suffolk too and going nowhere now I'm home again.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you reckon about Strictly this weekend ? Goodness knows who will go now.
I think it ought to be one of two but it could be anyone at this stage, couldn't it. I think it is coming down to the popular vote really.
DeleteI know who I want to wine and who I think ought to win but who knows? xx
Your post conjures up favourite aromas and activities. There are definitely some advantages to short days and bad weather!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Wales x
There definitely are. I don't even feel I ought to do some garden work, let alone feeling a bit guilty because I am not.
DeleteIt's nice and warm inside too - the temperature must have gone up quite a bit. Even my fingers are warm enough.
xx
Stay home, nice and warm. My favourite smells are baking bread/buns and apple pie.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Oh, lovely!
DeleteHas your blizzard finished now?
xx
You sound like me - you see a new pattern, oh I want to make that! So I have a stash of patterns and a stash of yarn and never seem to get through it all. :)
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that DK yarn is a #3 weight yarn, while worsted is a #4. Can you crochet a test swatch to ensure the dimensions are what you want?
Thank you for that - I really don't understand the US yarn weightings. Swatching is something I ought to do more often but don't.
DeleteThere are so many patterns, so much gorgeous yarn and not enough time. xx
Sounds miserable weather, best to stay indoors. I would love a warm cosy scarf like that too but am too lazy to get out the materials!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a day when you wanted to go out for a walk or anything, that is for sure.
DeleteLOL - re getting out the materials. Mine are just up in one of the the guest room cupboards so not too inaccessible. It really is a nice scarf though. xx
The scarf looks lovely, Joy. I can see why you have to make it :)
ReplyDeleteI'm just a sucker for things like that. I have it printed out but there are other things I ought to finish first and I am trying to be disciplined about it all. xx
