Morning, everyone.  Sorry this is a bit late - I woke with a migraine threatening so I've been resting up a bit.  It's going slowly although all the drilling and sawing in the garden isn't helping.

I did a bit more cruise shopping yesterday - after some research, I bought some ice grips for my boots; they will arrive today so fingers crossed they fit.  I did read up about it before ordering as there seem to be different kinds.  The ones I've ordered are not for glaciers, mountains, etc, but for icy/snowy ground.  They still look vicious though!  I think I am going to need to practise walking with them on - not in the house though!  They will be useful, should we get icy weather here - it can be hard walking up the slight incline of the cul de sac when snow freezes and our road is rarely gritted.

I also chose a nice, warm hat with a bit that you can cover your mouth with, if needed - a sort of adaptable balaclava.  My hearing aids might not like it but tough!
I'm getting close to having everything now, I think.  Must go through my list again.

Also, I drove to B&Q and bought a couple of samples of handles.  I've asked Seth if they can fix the top door and the bottom door of each unit so that they both open together so I will only need one handle per unit.
They're working on the roof today and Seth says the bifold doors will be coming in the next few days.  We're getting there.

I didn't go to Groove this morning and, when I've sent this, I'm going back to my recliner to relax again - things should be much better by lunch time.

Have a great day, everyone.  xx

  1. What a great idea for the adaptable hat. May I ask where you bought it? I’d like to buy one as a present for my virtual daughter-in-law who feels the cold and walks the dog.
Your cruise preparations are so well in hand. I get the feeling that you are an organised person (like myself) whose pleasure is enhanced by “good order”.

    Kind regards

    1. Hi, Helen. When I saw it I thought 'perfect - exactly what I want'.
I found it on Amazon and here's the link. Copy and paste it.

Yes, I do like to feel on top of things and definitely yes, I see it as part of the fun of the whole thing. As this is a completely new experience, I'm trying to be super-organised.

    1. Norway. The cruise is up the side of Norway to the Arctic circle and there are visits to places along the way. The tour company advised getting ice grips. xx

  3. Hope the migraine eased up.

I use yaktraks. They aren't ice grips per se, but they do help in the snow and ice. They are a requirement here in the winter if you want to walk anywhere without falling on your bum! We do a lot of walking on ice. I'm planning on taking them to daughter's as she gets a lot of snow/ice and if I want to take the dogs for a walk I'll need them!

    1. It's getting better, thanks.

I had to look up yaktraks - they're like tyre chains, aren't they. I did um and ah about them (not really looking at the name, just the picture).
Maybe I should have chosen them - you obviously find them effective. xx

  4. That hat is a great idea. And very much looking forward to seeing the garden room when finished, bi fold doors are so nice.
Hope your head improves soon, I occasionally get migraines and know what it's like.

    1. It's a lot better now, thanks, Alison. I tend to get more visual disturbances and nausea that a really bad pain - more a sort of muggy head really.
It does look good, that hat, doesn't it? And something that I will use again and again too. xx

  5. Hope you are feeling better by now as I'm late reading.
That hat looks very warm and no need for a separate scarf - good idea

    1. Looking up, thanks, Sue. I've turned the heating up so I feel warm now - that helps. :-)
It's arrived and it's lovely. I wondered if the zip might irritate but it doesn't, not at all. It is cosy.

  6. Lovely hat. Might have to see if I can locate one of those. I use ice grippers most of the winter. Pretty sure they have saved me from breaking my wrist again.

    God bless.

  7. We used yak traks when we went to Norway a few years ago. It's good to feel secure on ice:-)
Hope the migraine has abated now.

  8. I shall have to research yak tracks - I wonder if I could find them at a local sporting goods store which sells hiking, skiing products. Good you have a short migraine bout. When my daughter gets them, there is vomiting, vertigo as well as intense pain that can sometimes last as long as 4 or 5 days. She gets 44 Botox injections about every 8 weeks in her scalp, neck, and forehead. She compares it to being stung 44 times by wasps. I drive her there because she doesn't feel confident to drive home afterward because of lack of concentration. She then states that it is worth it, because the symptoms subside for a few weeks. She also has drugs she takers also.

    1. Oh, poor lady - that sounds absolutely horrendous! Mine are rare and very, very mild. Enough to whinge about but, really, a mild inconvenience. Mum used to get them and she was flat out for a couple of days.

Amazon sells Yaktraks, I know, but I bet if you have an outdoorsy shop local to you, they will likely have some or be able to get them.

    1. At around five p.m., there's just a bit of mental fuzziness now, thanks, Catriona. The hat is great - I love it. Zipped up and with sunglasses on, I look like a proper skier - or a bank robber!!!

  10. Hope the migraine is better now, Joy.
I like the hat. It will be perfect for your Norway cruise. I'm sure it will get a lot of use in this country as well.
Getting closer and closer to having your new garden room completed. So exciting x
